Default Short Guide to OEM Shorty Antennas (W/ Pictures!)

Acura RDX

Pros: Another good option for those who want a more flush fitting antenna. The price point is acceptable sitting around anywhere from $13 +. Some member have even found one for less than $8. In my opinion, I feel this antenna sits in the middle of the two as an option with a better fitment and medium pricing while still being shorter than the avenger. However there is no empirical evidence to say that the it is actually shorter than the avenger. It’s just from what I have seen in pictures.

Con: The RDX antenna lacks the gloss that the stock antenna and base have. The antenna may look a little off to some.

Thanks for looking

Dodge Avenger

Pros: A good option for those who want something that sits a little more flush with the Z base. The price point is also a huge plus with some members finding some as cheap as $6.

Con: Longer than the S2K antenna. For those who want a “short” antenna this may not be for you. After 2008 the Dodge Avenger antenna incorporated a spiral design that doesn’t look the best. Some members like it though.

Note: If you don’t want the spiral design, make sure to buy a 2007 when purchasing this antenna just to be sure.

Honda S2000

Pros: A very short antenna without compromising reception. Perhaps the most popular antenna for most Z enthusiasts.

Cons: Almost consistently the most expensive antenna out of the three. Expect to pay anywhere from $12 - $30+. Another criticism is that the antenna does not sit flush with the base of the Z. Some don’t like it due to the overall muffin top look.

Note: As a popular option among a lot of automotive enthusiasts, BEWARE of knock offs, they will fade.

Short Guide to Oem Shorty Antennas

I realize there are quite a few threads regarding this topic.
I wanted to create a one stop guide for all those who wanted to address this.
Hopefully all your questions will be answered and we won’t have to see the same questions clogging up the forums. If you feel that I am missing anything or something needs to be changed, please either post here or send me a pm.

Edit: Pictures were taken from this forum as well as google.

What is a shorty antenna?
A shorty antenna is just an antenna that is shorter than our stock one. Many people like this mod because it is cheap, easy to install and gives the 350z a cleaner look.

Why OEM?
Some owners like to stick with OEM options because they want to achieve that cleaner look without sacrificing signal reception. An OEM antenna however, may not be short enough for some. For those who want an even shorter antenna and are not afraid to lose reception may opt for an aftermarket antenna.

From what I’ve the most widely used options are the Honda S2k, Dodge Avenger and Acura RDX antennas. The Honda Element wasn’t included because I have heard that it is identical with the S2K one.

These were the main ones that I could get sufficient information on.
Let me know what others and I will try and add them in.

And thanks!

Perrin and Agency Power are the two other popular ones but I'm sure people will add theirs to this thread as well.

I have been using the glossy S2k antenna for the last few years and mine sits on the base much better than the one that you posted and it matches the bases material better than the others that I have used

I had a cheap 'MangoWalk' 2" antenna for a while. Looked good but the reception was terrible.

Ohh. Yeah I wanted to make this thread specifically on OEM antennas.
As with more aftermarket stuff there are just too many brands, styles and preferences to really list. I thought it would be better if it was nice and simple.

This is the first time I've heard about different kinds of s2k antennas. What year did your antenna come off of? If it matches the gloss and fitment, it may be the best oem antenna for our Z's

Very good guide for those looking for a shorter antenna. Good job for posting pics comparing them as well.

I would highly recommend the Perrin, a bit pricey but sits perfectly.

I bought this one. It's adjustable by unscrewing and combining sections. Pretty rockin black chrome that matches the courtesy Nissan parts black chime emblems. Reception seems unchanged. I listen to the radio frequently.

Nice find Tackett, any pics installed at different heights?
I got the Perrin 4" and color faded to a silver hue similar to the door handle which i dont mind being my car is white but i would probably bother me if my z was a darker color. fitment at the base is pretty spot on imo but the reception is not too great so been looking for better option.

I'll take some.

I had to take the dremel to the mounting screw to shorten it so it would sit flush with the base. Other than that, fits pretty good.

Finally took some freakin pics of this today.

I have 3 different antennas.

I have a oem extended replacement that gets amazing reception, and I use it on long drives where radio reception is necessary, but its ugly.

Here's the old shorty I had which gets ZERO reception. This was popular back in the day when we didn't have any options.

Thanks for the update!

Despite this is now a dead thread, I appreciate all the feedback thus far.
