Default Worth it to strip out my interior?

Well, I've been seriously considering pulling my stereo equipment, and drastically stripping out the car from behind the seats, to the rear. Stripping out the plastic, taking out the deadener, and getting very drastic.

Then filling the holes with bondo and either painting it or covering it in truck bed liner. Just to make it appear more finished.

This is not a track car, nor is it my DD. I in fact, am behind the wheel of my Z pretty infrequently. I pretty much just drive it around town when it's pretty out.

So, will the performance difference even be worth the effort? I feel like its plenty fast enough now as is.

I guess my question is, will I do all this work and say "DAMN the difference is night and day!" or will I say "all that work for nothing."

I used to gut 4 cyl cars to make them faster and more fuel efficient. In my opinion you're going to need to gut around 6-8% of the cars total weight before you notice a difference.

Though that's on a 130hp(crank) car weighing 2400lbs, so the power to weight ratio is a lot less. Just have someone fat sit in your passanger seat (250lbs) and see if you notice a difference

That's a good point. I've had a couple hefties hanging with me from time to time and I really can't notice a difference.

So you want to gut a non-track car?

What is the thought behind this?

When I was 16 and stupid I ripped apart my civic. It literally had the front 2 seats, dashboard, and door panels left. Once done I drove it for a day and the next day put it back together beacuse I realized how stupid it was.

I just feel kinda strange sinking money into performance mods in a car with 150# of stereo equipment in it. I guess I just need to find a happy medium so far between being performance oriented and not painful to drive.

What makes it 150lbs? You have subs?

Why not try to lighten your system instead of get rid of it. Maybe go from 12" subs to 10" subs, or go with a single sub. One of the things I did last year was I went from a dedicated amp for my subs and a dedicated amp for my components to a single 5 channel amp that handles it all. Its smaller, lighter, and runs cooler than the two units I previously had. Probalby only saved me a total of 8-10 lbs but looks cleaner and performs well.

I like listening to music in my car. I'm sure if i took my system out the next day i'd be putting it back in. I'd rather just lose 30lbs then give up my system. Besides, if you take all that stuff out it probably will not be as visually appealing as the car will look like its missing something (an interior).

Well 150# might be an exaggeration.

I have a single jlw6 in a custom box, speaker pods, two alpine Rs, a ED 4 channel and an Phoenix gold xs2500.

It's probably not that much.

What's more important to you? Stereo sound with bass or added road noise? I stripped the rear end and the car did feel more nimble. I can tell when there's a heavy person in the passenger seat so my butt dyno might read more accurately than yours. lol I also have lightweight wheels which adds to the drive.

Night and day difference? No.

I have taken +/-400lbs off my z by removing pretty everything non mission-critical. This really isnt a track build nor is this my daily driver…it's more of a project…I love toying with the car...

it will make the car more nimble and improve acceleration, obviously, but you'll need to peal off 200 to 250 lbs before you'll start noticing a difference.

If you're thinking just removing a handful of pieces and going to cut 50 or 75 lbs than don't do it…it wont be worth it - you'll never know the difference.

I think the best sound system you can get is keeping the stock system and buy a nice exhaust lol. I never want to listen to music, all I wanna hear is my Nismo exhaust haha.

I wouldnt do it. Youll make a very nice car look trashy to save a few pounds? And on top of that its not even a track car haha.

Leave it as is.
