I just finished restoring my headlights about 2 hours ago using this kit and I'm guessing I did something wrong.... It looks worse then it did. I need help fixing it what should I do? Also how can I fix these hairline scratches on the front bumper? Please help!!

How did you NOT mask off the paint? You're going to have to repaint the fenders and bumper!

 

I did mask it off used the type that came with the kit.

 

those hairline cracks aren't from you restoring the headlights right?

 

I don't think so but I'm not sure.... Are those scratches ill be able to rib off with clay bar or wax?

 

Can I get another sylvania restoration kit and do it again to try and fix it since I did a bad job the first time?

 

It looks like you've taken paint off the bpdywork - or is it just the lighting?

Not sure what you did to the lights. I've got the Mother's polishing kit, which I've used a few times on my head and tail lights, even though they weren't fogged at all. That polish didn't leave even the tiniest scratches, just a glassy-smooth surface, like a clay bar on paint. Maybe try that kit instead?

If that doesn't work, try wet-sanding with some 2500 grit wet-dry paper, but be gentle, use lots of water, and use Scotch blue painter's tape to protect the paint. Then polish again with the Mother's kit, and finish with a layer of good wax.

I did follow the instructions so I'm not sure what happened..... I'm gonna try and do it again hopefully it will fix it.

Did you polish at all?

 

Get some mothers mag and aluminum polish and dab some on a rag and hand polish those the rest of the way to clear.

Just about any auto detailing shop will polish headlights. I would suggest taking your car to a pro and let them polish the headlights. I suspect they will get them looking like new.

 

^This or try again with a new kit. I really don't think you caused the paint damage under your headlight. Looks like it was there... and no they're small cracks so they can't be fixed by claybar. For that, you'd have to repaint. Hope this helps!

 

Should I just try to Polish my headlights and see if it works? If so what Polish to use? May and aluminum is for metal surfaces right?
