Default Steering wheel "resistor"

Hello all, hopefully im posting in the right area.

I'm new to this forum but have been following through some DIY's guides listed. I'm currently on my new project to remove my steering wheel. As some DIY guides stated was that you were to use a airbag resistor. What is this used for? and is it needed or suggested?

Also in advance, i want to paint my silver trim on my gauges above the steering wheel. Does that trim pop off?

You actually need two resistors, they're used to make the car think the airbag it's still attached to ur steering wheel, tho technically not needed unless u can live with the airbag light constantly blinking in ur cluster.
And yes that that aluminum piece does come off but u have to disassemble ur whole gauge cluster in order to take it off.

you need two 2.0ohm resistors. you can purchase plug-n-play resistors from worksbell or make them yourself.. you need them to prevent the SRS airbag light from flashing.
