Switch Cover Idea
Ok I have dealt with the scratches on my switch covers on the door for long enough. Partially because everything Ive read about repainting and plasti-dip, still scratches off after time.
My idea is to sand them down and repaint them. But instead of giving them coats of clear to protection, using a resin, like you would use on a table or bar top. Resin is much sturdier and thicker. It might not look 100% stock, but to me the peace of mind I wont be tearing apart my door again to do this is ideal.

I don't know much about resin, but I can say that you really don't need to. I sanded down my drivers side switch cover to the primer, I painted it with plastics paint and it's 100% better. No chipping, and it doesn't have that melted chocolate texture that the stock and plastidip paint would have.
Would be interesting if you're up for trying it though, definitely post up a thread if you end up trying it.
edit: btw, have you considered vinyl wrapping? A lot of people just use the di-noc CF wrap, but there's so many other colors and options, that would be a cool project as well.

Props for taking this on as a DIY project.
Yes,the switch cover area is prone to scratches. The resin idea is a good one.
It will take some time as you will have to paint the covers first.Doing this at this
time of the year(cold)is a factor.I'd sure want a pro OEM looking job.
It all depends on what look you want for your Z.OEM or,a updated look.
You could skip many steps if you just added CF covers to the area. They are already covered in a resin.Furthermore, they blend nicely with the Z interior.I installed
a combo of a dash cover kit and molded CF in my car.The switch covers are part of the dash kit.THe resin covering has a give to it.Been in the car for almost 4 years. They
look brand new.As mentioned, the resin idea is good. Most resins are brush on,not
spray.I wonder how good the finish will be?
