Default shift **** replacement

installed my new nismo shift **** today looks great but getting the old one off was a nightmare had to take the surrounding piece off, lock the shift lever with vise grips so it wouldn't move I didn't want to damage the transmission then use another pair of vise grips and twist like hell just to get it off heres whats left of the original **** no going back now i guess lol

Ha, the more I get on here the more I notice people getting offended so easily.

Mine came off by hand the first time.

I have never had to use tools on one yet, it's all in the wrist, it can't be limp.

Not exactly the first time this has been covered here...like since 2003. Mine too came off by hand with no damage. I gave it to a member here so I guess no going back for either. lol.

not trying to hijack thread but this pertains to steel shift **** that I have painted black and clear coat. It is kind of slippery so I was thinking about dipping it with rubber dip but want to know about how long it will last? I am going to get the stuff that you use to regrip tools.

mine was next to impossible to remove. I ended up using channellocks on it with a rag covering it- so i wouldn't destroy it. There was a bunch of loctitie on the threads when it finally came off.

i was replacing the clutch, had all oem parts so i doubt it had ever been off b4.

yeah for real. and don't forget about the ones that think they know the info but they're just pulling sh*t outta their @$$es from knowledge they got watching fast and furious.

unfortunately, as time goes by, the more affordable the 350Z becomes to little kids. it's like weeds invading a perfectly thriving lawn of grass.

Mine is an '03.......but i do realize some folks have had a hard time with it. Hence my mentioning that it has been covered many times before. and Cudaben - I sincerely doubt that the factory used any loctite - someone had it off before. It has to come off to remove the waterfall so if that ever occurred for any repair or mod, then there ya go.

PERFZ -well being my car is relatively stock, i just replaced the oem clutch, and flywheel im doubting anyone has been in there. but thats just my thought. I am an ASE certified tech, and work in shop. I have done so for years... but I am probably just not mechanically inclined. LOL.

http://nissanhelp.com/diy/z/projects...ob_removal.php

nissan used a loctite type formula on many parts, bolts, and fasteners. the final drive is an example.

you dont have to take if off to get the waterfall off, you just put the car in 2nd or 4th and spin that piece to the side.

If you've got any scrap radiator hose laying around or silicone couplings just cut one so it can wrap around the shift **** and then use a pair of channel locks on the shifter itself and another on the ****
