Default Question for those who have Vinyl wrapped interior trim;

Hello all,

Been going through all of the posts about vinyl wrapping, but a couple of answers I cannot seem to find; How much material did you need/use? Also, is the Primer necessary?

I am wanting to do the entire waterfall, main gauge cluster cover, switchplates on both doors, and possibly the plastic "pocket" piece under the door armrests.

I have the frost interior, so I would like to cover as much of the plastic as possible.

Your help would be greatly appreciated!

If this is the first time you've done any wrapping, I'd measure out the sizes of the parts you intend to wrap and perhaps add half again as chances are you're going to make a **** up somewhere along the line. Also you'll be able to make use of some of the bits of wrap that you cut out and use them elsewhere as some of this will be surplus. It's not the most expensive stuff so you're better off ordering too much than leaving yourself short.

I wrapped the waterfall area only and i bought a 24x48 size vinyl. Primer wasn't needed. It was my first time wrapping.

Well,

I may have purchased too much, but I am sure I can find something to do with the left over bits. Bought an additional piece for the door pockets, though due to the size of it, the pieces I bought may not quite cover them. Will have to see.

Also I figured since I would have all of these panels off (one section at a time), I purchased all of my replacement LEDs, so I can change the stock LED colors as I have the trim pieces off to vinyl wrap. That being said, may be quite a long time until I have pictures to post, but I sure will once I am done.

Thanks for the feedback!

How much did you purchase? What kind of vinyl did you get?

Purchased the Scotchprint 1080 Black Carbon Fiber from metrorestyling.com. For the main pieces I purchased 60"x24". That *should* be more than enough to cover the waterfall, switchplates and main guage cluster top cover.

Then I purchased another 60"x12" sheet to do the door pockets. That is almost exactly the measurement of the pair of them (hard to measure with all of the curves), so this sheet may not work. Have to take the door panels off to do this, so I still need to decide whether it is worth it or not.

On a side note, since I was just spending money ***** nilly this weekend, I also purchased the Kenwood DDX470. I've only had my car a couple of weeks and can already see how it is going to bleed my bank accounts dry. heh

Finished wrapping all of the trim pieces (did the full blue LED conversion at the same time).

Did not come out near as well as everyone else who has posted here. Some of the pieces have such a horrible curve to them, that it was near impossible to avoid wrinkles in some places. Some places it was basically impossible to get a single sheet to cover it, so I have seams running across the piece of trim.

I love the way it looks, just hate that I couldn't get it to work right. I think I am going to try hydrodipping next, may have better luck.

If anyone does decide to use the vinyl I used, definitely get the primer. You need it to get the vinyl to stick to the edges, otherwise when you re-install the trim piece it will just push the vinyl out.
