Testing in quarters with an old cubby lid. 4 different types:
no prime no sand
prime sand
no prime sand
prime no sand
Prime no sand looks the best imo, I'm not about the glossy look.

My first time painting ANYTHING and while it's not a perfect job by any means, I'm really happy with it.
I actually ran a female USB from the back of the cubby into the back of the double din, so my phone can sit in there on the charger stealth and I can use it for music nav phone calls etc. I WANT to do the doors next but I'm afraid of the wear those pieces will get. I don't know if I should use clear coat or seal them or what. I'm still a paint noob, but my arm rests right on The door and I'm afraid the paint won't be able to take it.
If you want to do the door handles, and have the paint last, you need to completely strip off the crap Nissan used. There's the black rubber, then a shiny gray layer, and then finally the black plastic. Getting that middle layer off is a giant pain-in-the-***. I used some lacquer thinner, and a razor blade held perpendicular to the surface as a scraper. When you get down to the plastic, sand it smooth, prime it and use an adhesion promoter before the paint. This is where you need to be before primer and paint:

I'm actually not doing the door handles, I'm doing the part of the door with the same section as the waterfall. Those that you provided a pic of I'm going to have dipped or suede wrapped, TBD.

Pretty upset. This last ping pong piece is actually connected to the dash on only the drivers side. I have no interest in tearing my actual dash apart for that one piece. I can't do the other side or it will be off. Considered aborting the doors but they're already apart and I guess I'll see how it looks without those pieces painted.

Finals:

Stay tuned for more interior updates! Doing the door panels with window/lock controls, the silver shifter trim CF dipped, RLG shift and ebrake boot, custom handbrake install, 100% LED orange to blue replacement with white guage face, and when I'm able to find out how the harness setup actually works, full seats/wheel redo.
On that subject, I'm really trying to figure out the whole harness bar/harness seat mounting process. The wheel is easy and I've done it before, but I'm not taking my airbag out without a full harness correctly installed.

Looks like you've manage to ruin all the flow of the Z's interior...
Too many contrast parts and different colours...
Also these small details that remained black on white...
I respect all your work done though. Your car - your choice.
Just remember: design is very simple - that is why it is so complicated)))

Good luck with your project!!!

Thanks for the reply, but I don't agree at all. The OEM interior is very dull. It's black on black on black with silver trim, some of which black textures wear after normal use.
I agree with Unicus on the interior being dull .
Only thing is I would have left the doors alone. If the color of the car is ppw the console being white is ok. Looks good to me.

The color is black, it's a nismo. I'm going white wheels, I think everything will flow well. I did the doors because the waterfall alone felt too "stand out" from everything else. I have more plans but I love how it turned out for now.
