Good thing you didn't drop the bolt into the door.

Most tutorials for the door handle swap recommend the cut down toilet paper tube to avoid that possibility.

 

You actually missed a critical point when you install the handle. There are two tiny protruding points that must sit behind the door skin. Most people do not notice and its what causes the handle to fail in the first place. All the stress is on the plastic instead of the door. You just wiggled the handle on without paying attention to it.
