Default Dash Retainer Clip Question?

Hello all, I recently purchased a 2006 350z and I'm replacing the stereo in it. Unfortunately the previous owner wasn't very kind to some of the interior pieces so I'm stuck cleaning up his mess.

I did a little search (to the best of my ability as I really don't know the name of this piece) and came up with nothing.

I'm looking for the dash clip (metal retainer push style clip?) that goes up above the three dash gauges (oil pressure, volt meter, and multi display guage.) I at-least believe there's a metal retainer piece there? I've been a chevy/gm person all my life so I'm not sure what all came with the 350z from factory. Posted below is the area that I'm talking about.

I'd be more than happy to search if someone tells me the part # or proper name for this piece but as of now, I have no idea what the name for it is.

If there isn't a clip then no worries.

Thank you

Ah well I guess the previous owner broke off the tab that should make it secure up there then. As it stands now, the top doesn't want to stay in so I assumed there was some clip retainer up there as most interior pieces have. Thanks for the diagram, I guess I'll have to buy a new dash bezel if that's the case.

Thanks for the confirmation though!

There is no metal clip in there but I will confirm that for you tommorrow because I am pulling my console out. The piece you circled has a step on the top side that snaps into a cutout in the dash

Wonderful, that would be a big relief for me. I ordered some metal interior clips on the offshoot chance that it would work but a new bezel isn't to much so I can buy one if needed. I think I'm so lost on this situation due to the fact that where that plastic piece should be, I have basically a clean cut/snap line so that it only gently sets in the designated hole as opposed to snapping in place.

Thanks again beezee!

There is no metal clip. I wonder how the step on yours vanished. Do you see a sign that it is shaved off or broke off. Can you show a picture of that surface.

I'll try as get one tomorrow when the sun's shinning but like I said earlier, I think the previous owner took the yank and grab approach with little to no love on a lot of the interior pieces so some of the plastic tabs that should be on some places, are just clean cut broken off which I think is the same for this piece, I just wanted confirmation.

Edit: It will have to wait to the weekend as I'm getting off work when the sun doesn't shine but I'll be installing my amps and whatnot this weekend so I have to take the dash back off anyways. I'll get one then.

As requested, here's the picture of my dash and like I said, I think it's just a clean break but I'll let y'all be the final word on that.

Yeah the tip is broken off. I would have posted a picture of how it should look like but there is an easier way. Go to ebay and search for 350z console or 350z bezel. Most sellers display lots of pictures of the items. I use that technique anytime i am removing a dash panel and want to know where the clips are

Yea I figured but thanks for confirming it for me. Do you (or anyone) know if the pre 06 dash bezels are the same as the 06? (03-05)

I plan on ordering a new one and I figure they are the same but I just want to make sure!

I appreciate it. If they are the same then I can snag a bezel with a cubby for 80, that's why I ask!

Looks like the part #s are different but that doesn't necessarily mean it wont work... Someone with a newer model might know.

They are not the same. There is a thread on here that explains the parts needed for those that want to swap 03-05 to 06-08. Your triple gauges won't fit

Ah solid information, thanks again beezee, I figured I couldn't be that lucky!

Thanks dboy, I took a peek at the same thing you did but figured I'd ask just in-case!

Thanks all!

Glad I was able to help. In fact not just the triple gauges but also the bottom part where your shifter surround meets the console are different.
