Default Carbon Trunk vs OEM Hatch Struts

I just finished up on a carbon trunk swap but the oem bolt on the struts do not fit on the new trunk. The new trunk came with its own bolt that is bigger than the oem.

oem strut that screws into the trunk vs new bolt that came with the carbon trunk

obviously different size

too small

Do I need to purchase whole new struts or where could I just find the appropriate size and switch them out.

Thanks in advance!

Maybe you could use a helicoil t reduce the thread size on the hatch?

oem strut bolt = M8 1.0

new trunk bolt = M8 1.25

Im giving the helicoils a try. I bought some for just 5 bucks....but it'll take about a week to get to me through the mail. No hardware store in town had a M8 1.0, only M8 1.25. Go figure : /

In the mean time, here's how she looks so far. I'm planning on slapping some louvers and the visor tomorrow. As for the wing, gatta wait 2 weeks for it to arrive in the mail. I love the waiting game.

Good news everyone!

I managed to find a larger "gas strut bolt" that fits perfectly into the new trunk. I was also able to keep the OEM struts and saved myself about 2 weeks if I had ordered some online. My local NAPA store had some in stock.

Aren't the OEM struts too strong for the carbon hatch?
