I took my bumper off and that square plastic piece was just sitting behind it unsecured. Im about to put everything back together, but not sure where it goes. It says LH on the bottom, im assuming for left hand side, but not sure where its supposed to secure to???

it's the fricken swaybar fender shield!
EDIT:
a little bit more...if you check you right passenger side it should be a shield over the sway. now check the driver side once everything is back together you would have a space clearly to the engine bay.
I'm pretty sur that one of them to a side

ok, crazy question, how the hell did it get behind the bumper, if its what i think you're talking about it should be behind the radiator correct? im guessing some genius who had the car before me just threw it in there?
also, there isnt one on the drivers side, so im assuming thats gone, im not really sure where this goes, but it obviously wasnt where it was supposed to be. any harm in leaving it off? It bugs me, but I really cant find the 2 bolts it secures to.

that isnt the shield for the swaybar, it mounts to the impact part of the front bumper. the big aluminum bar behind the bumper. these shields mound under it in front of the radiator and behind your grill on each side. i dont know their purpose, but mine fall out too. drives me nuts.

^^ yup, mounts to the bottem of the bumper, covers the power steering lines on the pass side amnd helps channel air to the radiator. Very good place to mount your brake ducts.

Sight Shield
I have a 35th anniversary Z. I had some front end damage, and it's apart right now. I also had the same problem ID'ing some of the parts...but I'm learning.
I went to my online Maintenance Manual, and found the shields. They are identified as "Bumper Sight Shields", and are indeed mounted at each end underneath the aluminum tubing called "Bumper Reinforcement". Actually, it's the only front bumper on the Z. The "Sight Shields" are mounted with (3) each plastic clips. Their ID is #C205 clips.
There are also a left, and right Intake duct. They are not listed, although shown in the diagram. I had a hard time ID'ing them also. Both were broken, but I am wondering if I shouldn't just make my own out of aluminum sheets.
As far as the real purpose of the "Sight Sheilds", I've seriously wondered myself. Because of the way they are shaped they are not at all aero-dynamic, and appear to block the air more than the view (sight). It would seem more ideal to have them mounted directly over the hydraulic lines rather than so far forward. I was thinking of not putting them back on. They don't protect anything being located where they are.

Hi guys!
Here is my mod of the front air intake. I decided to get rid of the "sight shields", and to create my own air intake by adding two pieces of plastic from my old bumper. I used an apoxy to attach them. They will now direct the air to the radiator without need for the sight shields which only restricted the air flow. All they did anyway was to block the view on the sides of the radiator, something that could have been done in the first place by simply installing the air ducts on the bumper cover. I extended the lower lip of the new bumper cover using the lower lip of the old one.

I have some damage from a flying 5 gallon bucket and my bumper fascia needs replaced. During the visit with the insurance adjuster, I pointed out those two things floating around behind the bumper. He didn't know what they were but added them to the estimate.
After I got home, I poked around a bit and tried to figure out why they were called Sight Shields. They shield your sight from seeing the bumper bolts behind the bumper through the lower grill opening.
They hang down from the actual metal bumper that's behind the facia. They are held in with pop-clips as terrasmak said.
They don't direct air (block airflow, actually), they block from sight some of the ugly behind the bumper. Removing them will mostly be a cosmetic thing and allow more air to flow through the grill opening.
