I have moved to France and am in the process of getting a Controle Technique which is their version of an MOT
I have the appointment on Wenesday and assume it will fail on the headlights as they are originals from the UK, although I recall seeing some mention of someone in the UK selling LHD European headlights which worked on RHD, but I may be wrong.
I am happy to buy LHD headlights if/when it fails, but I dont know what type I have, and what type I could get that might be better? I have read about different versions, and not being too technical I havent really followed but if I am going to spend money for new lights I would like the best I can get.
Any advice? (I have a 56 plate 350Z Roadster as you can see in the photo)
I believe that the main difference between LHD and RHD projector headlights is the orientation of the step. Here in the states, with LHD and we drive on the right side of the road, the projector cutoff step is slightly lower on the left in order to avoid glare for oncoming traffic whereas it's the opposite if you drive on the left side. Here's a pic to illiustrate.
If you need headlights with the LHD beam pattern like we have in the US, I'm pretty sure you can just swap out the headlight housings.
Update, the car failed the MOT on the headlights and no rear fog light. Because the fog light is fitted on the right in the UK, I swopped both rear light clusters for these: https://www.tarmacsportz.co.uk/tarma...oked-lens.html
I couldnt get the fog light to do anything however I tried, so I left it alone hoping it wouldnt come up in the MOT.
Now I will buy some Frenchie headlights and look into a fog light.
Last I checked OEM headlights for the Z33 are not available in the states/product discontinued. It may be different over there and there are usually multiple offerings on Amazon. Welcome!
Thanks JHC, it seems now that I have a failed MOT, which allows you to use the car for 2 months, I can now apply for a French registration document and get a French number plate which will be easier to get the right headlights.
