Default DEPO Halogen-> HID retrofit, lights turn off

Hi all,

I am retrofitting DEPO aftermarket HID headlights to a car that has Halogens. I have the 6 pin to 8 pin connector conversion worked out (I think).

Everything works, but my problem is that the HID bulbs turn off after about 30 seconds. If I turn the lights off and then on again, they come back on, but again go off after 30 seconds.

They don't both go off at the same time - the right side goes off first then the left side about 5-10 seconds later.

Has anyone else done the halogen -> hid retrofit and had this problem ?

Are the ballasts still getting power when they are off. Bad luck on two bad ballasts?

Thanks for the suggestion I'll check if power drops out when they turn off - is there a general issue with the stock halogen power feed not keeping up with the higher demands of the HID system ? I have seen a few threads on 350 HID retrofit to a car that had halogens and I haven't seen anyone mention the need for an extra relay/power feed to run them.

Generally speaking, if the lights are going out randomly after being illuminated, then that's a sign of a bad HID ballast, or possibly in your case, ballasts.

Since your Z didn't come with OEM ballasts, where did you source them? Are they OEM or new from a reputable manufacturer? Same questions with regard to the HID bulbs.

Just closing this one out for future reference - you (and others) were on the money with the ballasts. The ones I had were aftermarket Amazon units. I sourced some used OEM Nissan ballasts and hey presto, all working.

Thanks everyone for your help.
