Default carpet/floor questions

If water entered the car at the firewall, would it naturally flow to the rear footwell if parked on a slope? There is a horizontal buttress that might block it, but in this picture (not mine) it appears that water might flow under it (assuming the passenger and driver side are built the same). I'm asking because I have a lot of water in the driver rear footwell and trying to find the leak. Also, can someone provide a link to a carpet removal/replacement tutorial? I searched but can't find one. I don't want to replace mine but want to see what is involved with getting access to the rear footwell to dry it out. Thank you.
