painted engine, battery and coolant covers
I've noticed some people who have had this done. I remember a while back seeing a picture that someone took of their Nismo equiped PPW being signed by Mr. K and was wondering who does the painting for the covers. Are people doing it themselves or are they having them professionally done?
I'm thinking about doing it myself but was wondering if anyone who has done it themselves if they've posted some instructions or any more information on it.
Thanks for the help!

I agree, but I've seen the pictures and ZPRESENCE's work is very impressive. I think I might just try and go at it alone. I did come across someone who did do it themselves and offered the following advice. The pictures looked pretty good as well.
"What's the process? 1) wet sand the cover with 400 grit sandpaper to get the surface smooth 2) cover the emblems with masking tape 3) apply 3-4 thin coats of enamel paint 4) let it dry over night 5) apply 1-3 coats of high heat clear coat 6) let dry and you're done! I even painted the tacky blue windshield wiper fluid cover!"

my friend's dad's friend has a painting booth that he can use to paint(a car!). that means that he must have an airbrush, high pressure obviously! i'm going to talk to my friend to ask him to see if 'I' can use it too or he can paint anything for me. if so, i'm heading out to the dealer to get a can of matching paint from the manufacturer and do it myself. too cold too do anything now, but around May or so i'm going to start on it(hopefully). ill post some picts... somehow...

looks like a greddy strut bar. and it won't fit with the crawford plenum..... i don't think it will fit with the kinetex plenum either.
Rob painted these for me......charges $520 for the 3 covers & finisher. Yes, a bundle, but the final product is beautiful. Does prep, mixes in heat stuff for protection & flexibility, and several coats of clear. Thought you might like to see Silverstone color........
Also have had the 3 fluid caps painted to match since this pic.....

Randall - they're bolt caps... www.summittracing.com has them in chrome, red & blue. Order them in the 7/16" / 10 mm size. They're around $7 for a set of six. They come with 12 plastic inserts (6 in 7/16 & 6 in 10mm) that slip over the bolt head, then you just pop the cap over the insert. On the website, punch in "bolt caps" in the search & it'll take you right to them.
does anyone know how to remove paint off of those plastic parts without damaging the plastic?
i painted mine last summer, but im thinking of changing the color. i dont have a clear coat on them either. any ideas? thx
great idea with those bolt caps. looks sweet.

that's hard to say... one way that i could think of right now is sand them down as much as you can. other than that... i dont think that there are any chemical liquid that would remove paint instantly and/or w/o damage the plastics. unless you can posses a liquid that doesnt dry to the air and doesnt melt the plastic so that you can soak the covers and leave them for w/e the period required.

thx for the info. i was getting desperate today. i went to home depot just to look around. in the corner of my eye was something shinny, like an angel. lol. turns out it was a miracle called "goof off 2". just like goof off, only safe on "most" plastics.
put that stuff on and let it soak for about 30 minutes. i was able to wipe the paint off with a sponge. very nice. oh and i used a tooth brush to get in those holes all over the covers. took me about 15 minutes to clean up each piece after letting them all soak for about 30 minutes. that stuff worked like a charm. im not sure if it would of worked if i had a clear coat on though.
now for phase 2 of my new paint scheme. some of the paint was starting to bubble on the battery cover piece. is there something i should put on the plastic before painting to help the paint stick better?
thanks again.
