I have not had a front plate on any of my California cars since 1975. I have been cited perhaps 5 times, some of those incidental to a citation for something else.
I have either tie wrapped a plate onto the car for sign off by an officer, then removed the plate again, or I have just paid the fine and moved on with life.

My ZR is on order. I have already told my dealer to NOT drill holes in my front bumper for the front license plate holder. I have ordered the license plate adapter from Strictly Z. This adapter screws into the tow hook screw hole. I figure that the front plate thing is a "fixit" ticket so I can screw in the adapter, get my ticket signed off, and then unscrew the thing.

My front plate is sitting on a shelf in my garage where it belongs. Not on the front of my Z. Never had a front plate in 10 years, never got any tickets. Now that I live in AZ, when I switch over registrations, I'll actually be legal to have no front plate. Yipee!!

i wanted to bent or cut the california part...that's what you did???
i think it is illegal...i am not sure
get a license plate bracket with lots of holes... then buy zip ties from you local home depo or lowes... zip tie the bracket to the left or right part of the grill putting more zip ties (3 maybe 4) on the top of the bracket... the screw the license plate to the license bracket... total cost $10.00....
there is a how-to on this. where they tell you to use the screws but that didn't really work for me.. the zip ties are very secure IMO.

I got a ticket a while back to when my car was parked.
I'd rather not put the front plate on either but if you do get the ticket, i's a hassle... I have a Zee Bracket now.

Zee Bracket. Finally put mine on today.
Beats the hell out of Drilled holes in the bumper.
10 min to install
It's easy to take off and put back on if you wanted to,
maybe for a meet or whatever.
I admit the best look is no front plate but
If you want to run with the front plate I recommend it.
LA Fuzz are strict where I live. Like SHO-TIME said they
can and do give tickets for it when your parked.

what if you put ur plate in the front windshield on the passenger side? is that legal?

For me, it's been all good so far (with the Z, that is) and I try to drive in the places that I know the cops are lax on the plate issue.
Here's one I heard recently from a friend who just bought a Z:
In Cali, when you buy a new car, your temporary registration is a little packet stuck to the inside of your windshield, down in the corner. Someone at the dealer told him that if you leave that in even after you put the rear plate on, you're good to go.
Sounds kind of hokey to me, but you could call the DMV and find out.
For me, my front plate is in the storage compartment behind the passenger seat.
Then again, I'm probably moving to AZ soon, so it'll be a moot point!
