In Cali, when you buy a new car, your temporary registration is a little packet stuck to the inside of your windshield, down in the corner. Someone at the dealer told him that if you leave that in even after you put the rear plate on, you're good to go.
Sounds kind of hokey to me, but you could call the DMV and find out.
For me, my front plate is in the storage compartment behind the passenger seat.
Then again, I'm probably moving to AZ soon, so it'll be a moot point!

you're supposed to put on both plates when you receive them from the dmv. that little paper registration that you get from the dealership is only temporary. but i know many members here that do not put on the plates at all and just use that little temp. registration paper. so i guess that will work fine until the next z model comes out

They used to crack down on it hard when I used to live in San Diego. I believe it was so they could catch you with the traffic light cameras since they would take a picture from the front.

front plates.. yeah i agree its ugly. I've been takin it off and putting it on for the past months. The days I do take it off though, seems like i run into more po-po's, so far so good. Its under my passenger seat rite now... if i do get pulled over, i'll probably say i was waxing my car so i took it off and my auntie threw out my screws and i'm on my way to home depot.
i dunno if they'll buy it
i dunno if they'll buy it
here's my plan..
dont know if its gonna work but will give it a try ..
its gonna cost around $216.00 per year in NY but in my opinion its well worth it..
first , im gonna report a stolen front plate to the police ( keep the record in the car ) , same day i will reorder my new front plate ( $18.00 ) get confirmation letter from the DMV that i did and keep this document along with the police report ... it takes at least 4 weeks for the new plate to arrive...
you can probably stretch it and after 5 weeks after ordering the plate , call DMW again tell them you didnt get the plates yet , wait another 4 weeks for them...
after you finally get the plate , go back to step one and visit your local police department , report them stolen again..
even if you do get a ticket i believe they will dismiss it after you send the proof that you reported them stolen and reordered the plate..
what do you think ?

^ seems like a lot of work to me.
the thing for me is I dont even want to be stopped.
Maybe you found a way to pro-long no plate and not get a ticket for a while. but you'll still be stopped and have to go through the hassle of that experience. Then the Hassle of proving why you dont have the plate. Phone calls and visits, Mailings. ugh
You might get pulled over several times in the year, Plus I dont know if they can do this is NY but in Cali they can give you a no front plate ticket when your parked.
In NYC almost no one runs without the front plate. The Z is a highly visible car. Without the front plate your just asking to
have a personal conversation with the NYPD.
I know having the plate Sucks, I ran without it for a little while.
I love the look without it, but I know for sure eventually I will get nailed.
I just slapped on the Zee Bracket. 10 min to install, and I can take it off in 2 min anytime I want.
Also you can save that 200 bucks for Mods

Mine is behind the passenger seat
My reasons for not putting the license plate in the front:
1) STUPID cameras on the traffic lights!
2) makes the car look ugly
But # 1 is my biggest concern. i have received 2 tickets for no plate in the front while parked.
So. Cal guys, what if the cop pulls you over, and place the plate on the dash right away? can we get away with that?

I bent the bottom of my front tag about 2" back to make it narrower, and I mounted it behind the factory grill right in the center of the car. It looks stealthy, not really legal because its behind the grill, but you can clearly see I have a front tag. Previous to this I had 2 warning and 1 ticket, after this I havent been pulled over for it, although one time while being pulled over for speeding the cop said "your tag is illegal mounted there" I just told him I didnt know and I would fix it and he let me off.
Take a look at my avatar, mounted bracket with cable ties (found at any hardware store, like Lowes), the mounting bracket can be found at link below:

But I heard something about only getting so many of those types of fix-it tickets before the fines become rather hefty... anyone in CA care to concur?
Sho & El Diablo..thanks for the kind words
I know most want to run their Zs without front plates. Even I agree the look is much cleaner, however local PDs in California are getting more aggressive about enforcement of the front plate law due, in large part, to the enforcement cameras.
Some states are VERY hard nosed about running a front plate and if you live in one of those I hope you will consider my patented 'Zee-Bracket'. It mounts in minutes and looks so much better than OEM.
