I couldnt get mine off, I used vice grips, and towels ect ect.
I ended up tearing the leather on the shifter. and still never got it off.
the boot is right next to me, Ill destroy the shifter eventually to put it on, and replace the shifter with something.

The 04's do not just screw off. They pull off with the boot and console trim. You can then unscrew the **** from the shaft. If you try to turn the ****, it will just spin. I replaced my boot with a leather one with orange stiching. I got it from couresyparts.com. Real easy to do.

try Redlinegoods.com, they have all types of nice leather shiftboots, changed mine over to a burnt orange to match my seats. My shift **** came right off just turning it by hand, really simple install.
Wow, these people talking about shift **** coming off by hand....
hope you didn't damage your tranny by doing so. With channel locks on the bottom and vice grips on top, each turn was tight until the 12th turn or so. They must've put globs of Loctite on mine

you need to pop up the console that holds the shift boot and ac controlls up and grip the shifter its self with vice grips to keep it from turning while using another set of vice grips or plyers on the shift **** its self to get it off...
has anyone actually located a burnt orange shift boot? i ordered one from the350zforums.org like 3 months ago and never got it. i would really like an orange shift boot to accent my seats!
