I have my own limits on what I consider "streetable" IMO streetable includes full interior, ac, and stereo. you dont sound like your going for streetable though, your getting a second car.

otherwise, may as well drive a CRX with no interior and a B20 turbocharged. itd kick any Z's *** on any track. Id just be ashamed of myself. same for a fbody mustang if rwd is your thing. cheaper, easier ways to go fast if your not concerned with appearances and luxury.

just my 2cents.

Default Fuel pump location

Does picture #5 show the location of the fuel pump...hidden beneath the "glove box"?

Removal of two blue Christmas trees...weight saved .04 grams

LBSOHK, I have a hard time seeing your car being under 3,000 lb with just taking out the interior. I say this because I've taken it out during stereo install and removal (in that order) and I've pulled the seat to mount my Odyssey battery under it.

I've seen the Touring's weight listed as about 3250 wet.

I'm looking at your mods list and just not seeing the extra 150 lbs (interior + spare seems about 100 to me).

CF hood (10-15), flywheel and clutch (15), straight pipes (25-30), Borla (20), UR Pulleys (5?).

Or is this low on fluids as well? (The Z holds 120 lbs of fuel!) Drain the blinker fluid as well for sure!

If this car is still being used at a street car, I just have a hard time seeing a stripped interior as worthwhile. I had a 300zx that lost its insides and it really started to drive me crazy after a while.

I like to think the 350 has some class and it's just not worth it for the 10-15 lbs for the interior. That's the acceleration equivalent of about 1-2 horsepower.

And with respect to braking, different tires/pads/rotors or a BBK will be more of a difference than 10-15 lbs ever will.

Now, I've only weighed mine once at a truck stop and it came in at 3,050 with about 1/2 tank of gas. Where did you get yours weighed? I would love to get mine weighed more accurately.

edit- These are mine opinions only. You should do whatever you want with the car, cause it is yours. Well, as long as it doesn't involve neon lights, spinners, or wheels larger than 20".

I'm just curious how LOUD it is inside.

Personally I would've done all that and then put in like some fabric liner just so that its not all... um... exposed.

Is it really worth the weight reduction? It looks pretty horrible man.

+ an empty tank , did you check how much does your trunk mat weights ? or bose subwoofer with that metal piece ? it adds up ..

now why do you say that ? I dont see the stuff behind me anyway , my windows are tinted so you cant see it either...
I dont really mind having my trunk stripped , I'll say it one more time , its ugly but its worth in my opinion...

Fuel pump makes some noises when you start the car , also the exhaust is kind of loud for a first few minutes... once I drive it , I really enjoy the sound of it ...
I would put some fabric inside but it kind of defeats the purpose..

I guess its not for everybody..
is it worth it ? hmm , for every 100lbs you take off your car , you cut your 1/4 times by .10 sec.. or so people say...
by dropping 200 + lbs , Im loosing approx. .20 on my next run..
+ this mod is free , is it worth it ? you betcha

In my book - streetable is when you still can drive your car to the track..
If I was looking for speed only , I sure wouldnt get a 350z...
I love the exterior of my car , I think its one of the nicest car on the road , cant say the same about crx or f bodies ( no disrespect, its just my opinion )..
sure it would be way cheaper , and much easier to get a cobra , add some mods , and literally fly on the streets , but whats the point ..
I like my Z - period. If by loosing the " luxury " and some interior plastics I will get a little closer to my N/A 1/4 mile goal - Im willing to sacrifice it..

There are better ways to reduce weight, take all that tar out in the back which is to kill the sound, I took that out on my Civic which is way smaller and totalled 83lbs! I think the Z has easily 100lbs of tar... It doesn't seem so but its really thick. The only drawback is that you will really hear the rocks and just about anything on the road... The good thing is you can go buy DYNAMAT if it gets to annoying and you want to put the car back to stock... Not my cup of tea but good look with your racing, look into what I said if you really want to get on a JENNY CRAIG DIET PROGRAM

the z, or at least the rear of it and the doors (i haven't looked under the seats or anything in the front) is pretty much void of sound deadning material.

maybe all those civic drivers with horrible sounding exhaust (no offense to other civic drivers, just the ones with rediculous exhausts) can't tell that their rides sound so bad because of the 83lbs of sound proofing?

Yes, I did! Trunk mats weigh 1 lb for the thin one and 6 lbs for the rubber backed one. The plate you're talking about weighs about 5 lbs with its bolts. My Track model doesn't come with the Bose subwoofer of course, but it did have that plate.

I agree that lightweight is a good goal (notice how much I've posted in the "Less weight = more power..." thread). But in my street car, I just don't see the need for a stripped interior for .01-.02 in the quarter . I think some slicks would make more of a difference than just about any N/A mod though.

Thanks for posting your results and ideas though! It's a lot more useful than people complaining about the inability to use Windex on the windows (grease) or take the car in for service...

Here is the tar in the back. I would like to get it out of my car, but it seems really stuck. The mat on top of it is some sound-deadening pad (also found in the spaces behind the seats). My Track didn't have this rear pad, but it appears the Touring does?

hmm that's weird. i just stripped everything in the back the other day to dynamat and my trunk definitely didn't have that pad and not even as much sound proofing under that pad. it also didn't have the stuff on the wheel well that you can see in the picture for the right wheel. it had like four 2x2 inch squares and that's it.

well now it has lotsa dynamat.

seems like the touring has a lot of extra useless parts...
why would you want to remove the tar ? is it really that heavy ?

I like it. If it's functional than it can't be too bad looking. And besides, if you can't see it while you driving and other people can't see it while you driving, than who cares about those panels in the trunk?

Can you tell us exactly how much all removed interior pieces weight? I imagine cf hatch would add up nicely to this....

I'll weight the pieces sometimes during this week , been kind of busy lately ...

I want that cf hatch so bad , but it doesnt look like its gonna happen , they got my hopes up for nothing...
someone should make one without the glass , or with plexi , that way you could just swap the hatches 5 minutes prior of going to the track...

Me too, but I just don't think the demand is there for a company to justify all the hassles of making it work. I mean, the could just use the CF to make a shifter or engine cover or one of those airguides. Costs them about $0 to R & D and people will pay for it too. That's why the Japanese CF parts are so expensive. It really costs a lot when there isn't a huge market.

I called Carbon Creations (www.extremedimensions.com) a while back and they said they were making OEM CF fenders, but it looks like there hasn't been much development on that project either. Fenders + hatch + hood = at least 60-70 lbs more off the car.
