My New Halon Fire Extinguisher
Just installed my new fire extinguisher with a billet head, billet quick disconnect mount, and harness bar mounting brackets!!!
I’ve been looking for a safe place to mount an extinguisher for a long time, and I decided that this set up is the best. “A” pillar mounts are potentially a hazard to a passenger. Mounting behind the seat slows down its accessibility too much. Mounting to the front of the seat tracks would get in the way too much for daily use.
My chosen mount allows quick access and is out of sight in the rear view mirror.
It’s a Halon 1211, 2 ½ pound cylinder.
I know they aren’t required for the HPDE events I run, but most organizations DO recommend a fire extinguisher.
Plus, I think it looks pretty cool!
I’ll try to find a pix on my brand new PC……..

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the million $ question!
Retails for almost $400.00 complete. BUT, I have a friend who will do a MUCH better deal.
Bottle also comes in red, white, or polished. With or without the bar mounts.
And, yes, brackets for bars other than 1 1/4" diameter are available.

Getting ready to order THE GPS Laptop Data Logger w/video integration soon......When it gets to me, I'll take a mini road trip to Northern!
Unless you can't wait.
I'll get some better pix up soon.

You may want to rethink having a Halon extingisher in your car. Halon is EXTREMELY hazardous or fatal to your health and the environment. Halon in mostly used in buildings with alot of electronic equipment because the gas does not harm electronics. But if you have ever been in that type of building you would notice that they have sirens on the ceiling and gas masks located every few feet just in case that stuff goes off.
Check out the Material Safety Data Sheet in reguards to your extinguishing agent:

Interesting! I was of the understanding that this is/was the best chemical for all types of automotive fires. I think SCCA requires it. I thought you could put out a burning stake in your oven, and still eat it.
But, thanks for sharing the MSDS sheet.
I just checked the 2005 SCCA GCR. Section 17.22.2 specs out their requirement of having either a Halon 1301 or 1211 2 LB extinguisher. Sooooooooooooo, if it's good enough for the SCCA, it's good enough for me.

Wow, make sure you are OUT of your vehicle when you use halon or better yet why dont you install a gas mask holder next to your extinguisher. Like manofsteel said that stuff will kill ya.
How safe is HALON?
Extensive toxicity evaluations have been compiled by nationally recognized US Medical laboratories & institutions on Halon 1301 and 1211. These evaluations have shown that Halon 1301 is the safest extinguishing agent available, and that Halon 1211 is the second safest. Dual Halon concentrations of about 5% by volume in air are adequate to extinguish fires of most combustible materials. This concentration is equivalent to emptying twelve (12) 2.5 lb units in a closed room of 1000 cubic feet, which would be highly unlikely.

Thank you Z-INCOGNITO for the information! I would guess that if it's save in the enclosed small volume of an aircraft, it would be safe out in the wide open area of a race track.
Funny how that link had a link to the MSDS report.........

Yeah I think it's funny they have a link to the MSDS but there is no link to the "evaluations of a nationally recognized US Medical laboratories".
Everything they taught us in the fire academy said that Halon worked extremely well in extinguising fires but was very hazardous to life. Even the Air Force did away with all the Halon extinguisers except for certain areas of aircraft and the flight deck and cargo hold isn't one of them.
Not trying to start anything just passing on the knowledge that I've been taught. Just be careful and I hope you do well on the track.

Looks Great! By the way, I love your harness bar, where did you get it? Can you PM me pricing, and details I really want one. Also, if you know someone who can hook up a fellow Z'er

You need to be careful with Halon. When I was in the Army with the mechanized Infantry the Halon bottles went off quite frequently and it is not a fun situation. Basically halon will take all the oxygen out of the compartment your in. So if it ever goes off you better roll down all your windows, pull over and get out! Just imagine like your under water. Exactly what it feels like not being able to breath. That stuff itches like crazy too. That spot is kinda freaky for having it, it looks good but man if that goes off. Just be careful, Im not trying to dis it but I have had plenty of experience with it. Hot days are the worse so keep an eye on it.
