Default New Posts function fails eventually

When I come to the main page, I hit the New Posts button and start wading through. It seems after a while (30min - 1hr), when I click on the next page it gives an error that it cannot find it. It's happened since the new site introduction

Please fix. Maybe a too-low timeout? Could be an inactivity timeout if I didn't click the next page in x min too?

Oh yeah, when things like this happen, I really wish I could search for all new posts after a date. Always wants a search item and not just a date

Doesn't happen to me. But when it won't search for something..I usually just hit refresh and it will work.

I don't think you can search from a certain date...that would be ALOT of threads.

Godzilla: No, no MAC! IE6 on WinME

Sorry, maybe you misunderstood my problem. Here are the repro steps:
1. I hit the New Posts link.
2. I wade through the new post pages.
3. Opening and reading threads as I go.
4. I go back to the main new threads window and click on the next page.
Bam, gives a search error. Not a web error.
Basically it's like it's losing (timing out) my search ID.
I assume the search IDs map to a specific timestamp and it just queries the DB from that timestamp for new posts and groups by thread ID.
Somehow it's losing track of my search ID. I'm guessing if I don't click on a new page for 20 min or something it removes it and when I click next page is says, "WTF you want?" in nice computer language.

I'll try to repro and get the actual "error" message. It's something like can't find page for a link such as:
https://my350z.com/forum/search.php?searchid=55928&pp=40&page=3

My second post, more of a wished-for feature, would be a search by date/time. I know this would generate a lot of threads if you said a month/year timeframe. But it's really the same function as the New Posts link which auto places the timestamp for you instead.

Hope I didn't confuse ya.

Here's the message:
"vBulletin Message

Very easy to repro. Just hit the New Posts button and come back in ~20min. It will be dead

I think so. Can't think of any other reason. Before the site redo, I could save a new posts search link for days and it still worked.
Please fix. (I didn't check today)

Yeah, I've been getting the same thing... If I walked away from my desk on say page 4 of new posts for example and came back finished browsing it after a certain amount of time , like 20-30 minutes..... as soon as I clicked on page 5... BAM, same message.

but if I sat down and clicked through 12 or how ever many pages in a quick manner, I could see them all. So I assumed it was a timeing out problem.

Hope this fixes it.

I think it a web server session timeout problem. I get it also if I dont return to the post list within 20-30 mins. Some web servers/internet apps track each user via a session and these sessions have a timeout that releases the session after a given amount of time to clear memory used by 'old' users no longer hitting the site. I think you have to investigate how to bump up this session timeout value. It may be on the webserver settings or the forum system settings.

I have the same problem. If I walk away to do something for 30 minutes or so, when I try to go to the next page of posts I get the same error message.

I also get a cap of 500 posts if I haven't visited in a while. It used to give me all the posts before (sometimes over 1200...). I am assuming this is a cap that can't be changed...I checked my profile but didn't see an option for this issue.

Nooooooo, come on, you can do it!
It doesn't give me time to get through the new posts.

If you can't change that, can you add a search by time function without search keywords?
