Firefox users can download AdBlock and rightclick the image and select "AdBlock Background". It was still annoying before I figured this out, though.

whose idea was this? Its horrible! Any picture on the site has the water mark on it. Super annoying imho... It feels like I am cross-eyed.

Yeah sorry, not a big fan of the backdrop, it distracts from viewing pictures as well.
