Default Loosely Moderated Section, Please

I saw this in another thread and thought it deserved one of it's own

One thing I don't want to see is for this site to become the next
350zmotoring and that seems to be where its going. To me what made this site gr8 is that is was more loosely moderated, but things were not allowed to get completely out of hand. I recently got an infraction in the 17 year old thread on some piddly shat. WTF. I was threatened with one for correcting someone's spelling, again WTF.

Some of the most entertaining and most popular threads are the ones where the mods choose to let things go and allow us to have some fun.

Why not start a section for threads that get a little off topic and some harmless flaming starts. It could be at the mods descretion as to when to move them and if it got to far out of hand it could move to the premier section. I understand that some members are only here to discuss their car and want nothing to do with what I consider to be fun so moving such threads into an A/G like section would save them from even clicking on it.

The problem is that some of the more colorful members are leaving and my question is this. Has that been the agenda from the start? BTW, there are some really cool mods here in my book and they know who they are.

^We have said "loosely moderated sections"............it is in the premium members area. I can't comment on your infractions, but people have become outright disrespectful, intolerant, and flat out nasty towards one another. There is a set TOU.....you follow it....you won't receive infractions. The bottom line is there are 1000's of posts each day, and there is a comparatively (to other major sites) low number of moderators here. It creates an almost red mist of frustration for these guys to have to go over the same simple things over and over again with members.

As far as 350zmotoring goes.........that site sucks.....I got banned from that forum for correcting a moderator giving incorrect advice, etc to its members. We are a LONG LONG way from that garbage site.

I'll agree with OP on this issue. We're all adults. People need to check their panties at the door and learn that people have opposing views on certain subjects. If you dont like it, stop reading. Just a bunch of whinnie little bitches.

Being able to say things that may offend other people is part of what this country was founded on.

Making me pay $30 to do the same exact thing I do for free on 90% of other sites is stupid. I know this site pulls in 20K+ in cash monthly from the advertising/sponsorship fees charged. You really need to fleece the members of this site for additional chump change? There in lies the problem with the site being owned by a greedy corporation.

I don't know if people realize this, but this site is a purchased bulletin board prepackage that costs VERY little to gain rights to. Servers are overhead along with some Admins. Who do you think makes this site popular? The content contributed by IB? Hell no, its the very members that seem to be misrepresented here.

With few exceptions the admins, SM, and mods are good level headed people that sometimes become a little too motherly.

Yes, we act like kids picking fights on the school yard sometimes, but we're adults being able to speak our minds should be a right we observe on this board.

To the OP, we currently have the PM section for loosely moderated threads. I know this isn't beneficial to the non-premier member though. It's a good suggestion. Just give you guys a no-holds bar place to trash talk all you want. I'm just not sure this has ever really been the place for this, atleast not in my tenure. I don't believe, from the creation of this forum, it was ever meant to have such a place. Granted we do have OT sections/discussion, it's foundation is still the 350z. A no-holds bar section, accessible to everyone who may visit our site, is just not the essence of this forum IMO and I'm not sure it would be a grand direction to follow in. My 2 cents, but I'll let other staff chime in as well...

The decisions regarding what goes on in the premier area vs the normal area, has nothing at all to do with us. That is completely at the control of the site staff. We actually try hard to not tell them what to do.

Just to clarify.

+1

This decision was made soley by Staff. It is true, 9 times out of 10, IB allows us to run the site as we see fit...

Exactly, in order to have access to an area without adult babysitting we have to pay.....to do what we already do. Forums are created so people can speak freely starting at a base subject. OT is for off topic discussions.

We aren't curing cancer on this site, we're a bunch of mainly men discussing a Nissan car we drive. This isn't a Harvard forum on bacterial meningitis.

Can't you allow a section where you MUST sign in to access, but not make it PM only? I know this is available on a number of other sites.

FYI, I paid my dues for this site long before I even looked at the section you're obviously talking about. Why? Because I enjoy the vast amount of information avaiable on this site and the people whom helped guide me in the right direction concerning the car that I love. It was a small price to pay for the value of this site.

Go to 4chan.

On a side note, you're being a whinnie (sic) little ***** because the site staff has an opposing view on this subject.

Jesus...

It's crap like this that lost us the political section (which I miss so much )

Can't we all just be respectful to each other?

I understand people disagree.

But would you really say the things we say to one another here face to face?

Really?

There is an actual person typing these responses.

Exactly why we need a loosely moderated section!

I agree that first and foremost this is a 350Z site, but those that want to talk about cars only don't even visit thread like what I am talking about. The most entertaining thread on this forum is the 17 year old thread when it popping and that is what I'm talking about. If an OP starts a thread and starts getting flamed for stupidity and continues to reply then obviously they can't mind it too much. Thread like this could be moved into a section like what I am talking about. This site has really lost some of the dynamics that made it gr8 as some colorful members have gotten banned and heated discussions are now limited to paying members.

There would never be a shortage of entertainment.

Sounds kind of boring to me. Wait a minute. It is. Strong opinionated people who aren't afraid to say whatever comes out are the most interesting kind of person in this world. I take pride in being offensive. If everyone doesn't like what I say then I've done my job. Can you imagine PWR if everyone was kind and respectful all the time? I doubt you would be missing it so much. If everyone agreed life would suck. If everyone expressed their opinion with thought of consequence people would get very boring.

Define how an adult is supposed to act.

Dude disagreeing is one thing.

Being rude, immature and just plain nasty is another.

There's nothing wrong with being a wise *** from time to time. But there's a line that most people cross all the time.

If people hadn't have been downright rude, then we would still have the political section.

Seriously? You need an explanation of adult behavior? Really?

Agreed. This is why the PWR was shut down. This offensive/opinionated speech is what has been taken too far, beyond the threshold, in every single PWR thread in that section.

Trodis, shut it down...
