figured it out sorta

if you want to automatically subscribe to every thread you participated in then you have to go into the control panel - edit options - messaging & Notification - Use 'Email Notification' by default? YES, then you have to use the "Post Reply" button when you want to subscribe to that thread. if you use "Quick Reply" at the bottom of the thread, then you won't be subscribed.

if you only want to subscribe to specific forums then you have to click "Subscribe to this Forum" under the "New Thread" button of the forum which you want to subscribe. then you have to use the "Post Reply" button when you want to subscribe to that thread. if you use "Quick Reply" at the bottom of the thread, then you won't be subscribed.

The wax on/off method fixed my problem of not receiving email updates. I will let you know in a few days in things are still working. :-D

My issue was due to SBC\Yahoo DSL having a built in SPAM filter. I believe a few others have spam filters as well. I had to turn it off completely to start getting my notifications. Apperently a lot of these filters thinks these notification emails are spams. I had this issue on other forums as well not just my350Z. If you have SBC\Yahoo DSL i may be able to help you but if you have a different provider I wouldn't know where to start. But first thing i would check is to see if you have a spam filter, if you do turn it off and see if that works.

for me i used this site to turn it off for SBC.

FWIW I've gradually been receiving fewer and fewer notifications over the past week until yesterday and today I appear to have stopped receiving them altogether (despite threads etc having new posts of course).

Tried the on off thing yesterday but it's made no difference.
