Default Fix the edit title button to actually edit the title

Well when you want to enforce a rule in the marketplace to only allow one thread, how about you fix the forum function to actually allow users to update the title? Mods can update the titles...so it can be done.

Sure..you can go advanced and update the post title for the OP but that does not change the title of the thread as it is displayed in the forum.

Meaning, as someone adds and removes parts in their 1 single FS thread they can update the title instead of it being so far off of what is actually FS.

I think this would be helpful. I remember when I was really a n00b here and I changed my title multiple times only to find it the same in the feed. Hahaha. It is annoying but I can't say I use it a lot. People who part out could use it for sure!

The non-editing titles ability has been in place for several years now. Yes staff members are the only ones who can edit them, and I'm sure for good reason. Behind every rule is a reason. I will let our senior Admin chime in on this, as this rule predates my tenure...

well at least in the marketplace would be helpful. Else the other rule about 1 thread is junk.

Noted, and we appreciate your feedback.

We began enforcing the 1 thread rule per section to reduce clutter, particularly back when our forum was more active.

As for not being able to change the thread title externally (it changes within the thread as you noted), it was to deter people from editing their OP to include unapproved items after the thread gets approved by a Mod.

This makes sense, as each FS must undergo the approval process before becoming public...

That is conflicting. I am being told to use one thread. I have parts that come up for sale in spurts. If i cannot have multiple threads and I am not supposed to post inside of a another thread with new items then how do i list new items FS in a organized matter.

I agree on the clutter. I separated my items in what groups made sense with appropriate titles. Some of the marketplace categories have crossover areas.

Forum member for going on 10 years, 160 positive itrader...probably 40+ undocumented positive itrader...cut me some slack jack.

(notes that most of the forum clutter was by vendors bumping 20-30 threads in a matter of seconds)

not a vendor. I just change things on my car a lot. I let things pile up in the garage and then sell them or as i change a few different things i sell my old parts. All used parts.

Do you need some **** in your inbox? is that what youre getting at

Ill stick to one thread in each subsection, just give me a way to edit my titles.

One way would be to contact a Mod to close your existing thread as you create an updated thread in the same subforum. I have an alternate method but I'll have to check to see if it can be implemented first.

From what I recall, there isn't a way to let a specific individuals (or even usergroup) the ability to change the titles externally without also making them a Moderator of that section, which is unfortunate. I'll look into it more and if I find it, I will let you guys know.

Sorry for the delay but I have some updates..

As mentioned previously, there wasn't a way to grant specific individuals (or groups) the ability to change thread titles. However, if and when you need to list a new item(s) for sale/trade, you may simply create a new FS/FT thread.

Our system will now automatically detect when you have more than 1 thread open in a Marketplace sub-forum and close all but the newest of the threads. This way, you don't have to worry about going over the 1-thread-limit, and your thread titles will appropriately reflect the items in your listing.
