Default 'New Posts' disappearing...

I believe this has been a "new" feature for a while now, but, frankly, I hate it. I have no idea if I am in the minority on this one, but, if I am not, is there any way to revert back to the old setting?

I use the 'New Posts' link every time I visit the site. I click it every few minutes just to see the forum's most recent activity. I really dislike the way, after you visit one of the threads that appear after clicking that link, that they disappear if 'New Posts' is clicked again a few minutes later. It used to be that the thread visited would just lose the bold font in the thread title; not disappear completely. I feel like this setting just makes finding that visited thread, if there is a desire to go back into it, so much more difficult.

I'm not sure if this explanation is confusing, so I apologize if it is difficult to understand what I am saying… If not, does anyone else find this frustrating and actually make the forum a bit less user-friendly?

Im in new england too

if I have any desire to ever go back I try to post something so if the thread gets moved to a new location I can find it by looking up my history. Its happened a few times and I was a bit confused about it.

Cool. It's not the end of the world. I just didn't know if other members might find it frustrating, as well. Either way, thank you.

Ok I'm replicating what you are inquiring about tonight. I need to consult with my staff about this...

It's been this way for a while now. Personally, I'm not a fan either. It won't show up under 'New Posts' again until someone bumps it.

I personally just go to User CP where all the threads I subscribed to or posted in are all there. Other times, I go to Quick Links then click "Today's Posts."

My issue is that I don't post a whole lot and I don't want to have to start making random posts in threads (or post-whoring) just so I can keep track of them. For instance, I have never posted in the 'What have you done to your Z today?' thread but it's a thread I look at, for the most part, daily. Sometimes I will refresh the forum by hitting 'New Posts' and I visit that thread. Then, say, 15 minutes later I want to see the forum's most recent activity, I hit 'New Posts' again. However, if no new posts have been made in that particular thread in those 15 minutes, I have to go searching for it. I just think that's tedious and less user-friendly than it should be. I remember years ago, if the particular thread in question had not been posted in since the page refresh, it was still there, but the thread title was simply no longer bold.

I understand I could subscribe to every thread I visit or in which I have an interest, but I do not believe that is what was in mind when the subscription feature was developed.

Again, not the end of the world. Just something that frustrates me…

I'm trying to recall ever seeing this type of set up. I'm not trying to patronize you. I just can't remember ever seeing a forum fuction that remembers every thread you've visited and archive them in a list for you. Like 3hree5ive0ero stated, the only feature I can see performing this type of function is the subscribe function...

No, he's right. We did have that before and the feature's changed to what it is now a while back. It definitely was useful, and was a good way to see activity levels in threads you weren't a part of. I'll bring it up with the IB Admins.

So, an update..

Unfortunately, there's not a way to undo the fixes without messing up other parts of our cache system. However, to address WPPJR30's concern, subscribing to the threads may work as an alternative. He can subscribe to the threads without needing to reply by just clicking the option in the "Thread Tools" menu, and then monitor them either through email alerts or in his User CP.
