Displacement and revs
With the stories of blown motors that show up on the board, I am debating about building the bottom end prior to installing a TT kit. I am waiting for a CARB approved kit, so I have (probably too much) time to plan what I want to do.
If I'm going with a built bottom end, I figure, why not contemplate going higher displacement.
Are there any big bore kits out for the VQ? Would a larger bore with stock stroke retain the stock redline (kind of why I am looking for alternatives to the stroker kits).
It seems to me that a higher redline on turbo apps is preferable. Am I using false assumptions here?
Lastly, should I just dump the idea of a built bottom end and just worry about it later if the motor blows? The biggest drawback I can see to doing it that way is the risk of ruining the block, and needing to buy a new one, otherwise it seems worth the risk.
