Default Just installed Vortech SS-..Questions..

I am a new member of this site, living in Norway. I hope some of you can answer my questions.

I have just installed a Vortech SS in my 04-350Z. Our firm has a Dynapack Dyno and i dynoed the car today. The SS did not produce more than 0.4 bar (5.9psi) on 6500 o/min, and the AFR was going from 9.6 to 10.8.

Has some of you experienced problem with low pressure?
The SS belt is thight, and the bypass valve does not leak(i think)

Can I get software for the timing module from Vortech?
Is R4 the software for the Vortech SS timing module?

Howard

Howard.....First...do you have after market headers ? No cats ?. An open exhaust system can make a big difference on how much boost you make
Second thing I would check is your belt . It needs to be tighter than most think
Third thing I would do is adjust your BOV . It comes from Vortech adjusted to close late .

Welcome. As booger said, the exhaust system really seems to impact the maximum boost the Vortech can make. What were the dyno numbers? If the power is down then it is possible that the belt is slipping. As far as the R4 software, you can purchase that from www.splitsec.com for about $20 USD. (That's what I paid). Once you have installed the software on a PC, do a search on this site for tuning info. (There's lots of it)

Thank you for your reply...and I mean SC, not SS as written earlier. I`m from Norway you know...an other language

My mods are Stillen cat back exhaust and a self modded cold air intake. I still run stock headers and catalysators. I tried to tension the belt, and it helped a bit on the pressure, but it does not rise above 6 psi at the top revs (6500).

When i dynoed my car i had 286 HP and 383 NM/281 lb-ft he wheels at our Dynapack. My car Dynoed 246 HP nad 313 NM/230 lb-ft at the wheels NA with Stillen cat back exhaust and Injen cold air intake.

Vortech says they dynoed their test car to 412 HP (at the engine i asume) but they does not tell if there are any mods like new headers and removed cats at their car.

The engine now runs AFR between 9.6-10.6, way too rich i mean, so the fuel has to be tuned better.

Depend on the altitude of Norway, you might have to get a smaller pulley to compensate for the thinner atmosphere. Get the R40 software from SplitSecond, and tune the car. Most people on the board get around 340-370 whp from the Vortech at stock boost.

Now i have figured out the pressure problem. The oil drain hose under the SC had a bend, so the oil could not return to the engine. Then the oil made much resistance in the SC gearbox, and the gearbox got very hot. Now the performance is much better! I`ll have a new dyno test tomorrow!

How much boost does the internals in a stock VQ35DE manage?
Can you use a smaller SC pulley on the vortech and a stock engine?

Now i have a Vortech SC, Stillen exhaust and a Injen cold air intake(rebuilt)...What is the next steps/mods for my engine?I am not going to tear my engine apart (yet).
And where do i buy the parts?

Anyone who knows where to buy the Veilside front lip for the 350Z?

Now i have dynoed my 350Z Vortech SC...

The result was 336 whp/304 wtq (415 wnm) @ 8 psi (0.55 bar).

Stock was 215 whp after 10 miles.
With Stillen exhaust and Injen intake it had 246 whp/230 wtq after 6000 miles...

Dyno was made on our Dynapack Chassis Dynamometer in 5.gear.

Before I'd buy a smaller pulley, I would get a plenum to even out the airflow to all cylinders. What gauges have you installed?

As far as boost, you should be OK with the Vortech so far. It doesn't really seem to be the boost that is causing the problems but more so the tuning.

I think a Dynapack dyno is a load base dyno....so your numbers are good . A Dynojet dyno should be about 10% higher . So you would be at 360whp .
