will the machinist be able to order the bearings w/just calling nissan? or will he need the service manual?
If the machinist has the manual he can confirm the clearances and bearing colors. There are copies floating around on this forum. You can get someone to post a link and then you can print out the relevant pages for the machinist.

Yes, as long as he gives Nissan the numbers off the crank and block.

Although i would recommend that you give your machine shop a copy of the service manual that deals with engine assembly/dissassembly.
My experience with the parts guys at the dealership was that they had no idea what to order because they had never had to order bearings before.....because the cars are so new. They were all very confused because of the number of bearings. Just as bad as the lifter buckets for the cams. If you have the machinist use the section from the manual to figure out the colors you need have him make a list...you take it to the dealer and say I need this and this. If you minimize the chance of a mistake by the Nissan guys it may save you a couple of weeks waiting for bearings.

One quick question for the experienced!!!!-

What is the recommended main/crank clearance?

What is the recommended rod/crank clearance as well?

Would anybody know if the system is simpler thanthe honda B series bearing color code system?

Main to crank clearance is .0014 - .0018 limit is .0026
Rod to crank clearance is .0013 - .0023 limit is .0028

The rod bearing selection table is easy....there are only 3. The main bearing is much more complicated like I noted in an earlier post.
