I've rummaged through the giant 80 lb Vortech box, just mentally going through the steps before my install in February. The parts, including the blower, intercooler, bracket and piping, seem extremely well made and very solid. Each of the numerous boxes of separate parts packed into the large box were hand inspected and signed-off. The kit is far nicer in quality, finish and sheer strength then I expected it would be.

I bought the kit through Avalon Racing and pestered Paul with numerous questions both by phone and e-mail over several weeks to get things right in my head about it. Paul was patient, knowledgable, and extremely responsive, often answering my e-mail questions within minutes. I have never had a more positive experience with any vendor I've found through the internet. I highly recommend Avalon Racing. I'm going to do the install myself and bring my car up to Londonderry, NH to have the gauges installed and the car dyno tuned.

Are you planning to use the JWT oil pan spacer? I did it will make your install alot easier.

yes, I will be using the JWT spacer. However, it won't make the install easier. The pretapped spacer CANNOT be used with the Vortech. It doesn't get the return oil line above the oil level in the pan. This was confirmed by Paul yesterday--he spoke with Vortech about it. Still, it's nice to have an extra quart of oil to keep it a bit cooler.

 

Good luck! I installed mine and it took me about 3 days by myself on jackstands.

 

I agree with everything said about Avalon and Paul!

Three days is about right. Go step by step and make sure you have everything available before you start. If you are tapping into the upper oil pan you will need a small 90 degree drill. Also, don't know if Vortech is now including in the kit, but if not, get an NPT thread cutter for that drain line fitting. Got one at NAPA.

 

Yup good people over at Avalon. He even let me cancel a special GB order when I had some reservations about the installation process. Excellent customer service IMHO.

 

Does anyone make an oil pan or spacer that is tapped in a position that is acceptable?

 

Doubtful since the location of the spacer itself is entirely below the oil level.

 

there isn't one yet....

 

actually i tapped my oil pan in a different location than that recommended by vortech, its lower, easier to install, and still above the oil level, i know because removed the tap and no oil came out.

 

Paul is def a go to guy...i purchased my vortec and guages from paul...everything went perfectly...

i too tried to install it myself but realized it was going to take me forever. Jeff (great mechanic) at avalon knows his stuff and it was in before i knew it...

Hey Cat...did you get the JWT oilpan spacer. Wish I would have done that before my install. I think you should if you haven't.
