Default Built motor tuning: pulling timing?? e-manage

i will be getting my built z back very soon here...after the breakin period, i will obviously have the car tuned.
Please, for those of you who have done or are planning to do,

how much timing do you plan to pull...what method (per boost/per rpm/ etc.?)

what other changes will you be making through the e-manage? please provide details...

THANKS
TODD

j/k!!!! i wish i could help you with timing but i'm guessing my s/c timing and your TT timing will be different. but if not i pulled 6 degrees from 4500rpm to redline.(thats all i can remember) i still am waiting for my maps from the tuner, when i get them i'll give you a copy(if it will help)

went to bed? nah few hours left to go here!

I find myself able to get much more done in the middle of the night when it comes to paperwork and computer related stuff.

On the topic tho... honestly, ill let you know when I get some built motor E-Manage cars tuned.

Exactly how soon will your car be running?

LOL...I think Todd already has it too!

Anyways, I've only tuned the timing in the sub 9psi range, so its going to be a bit more experimenting for the higher boost levels. I, personally, am not a big fan of psi based linear timing retard...ie....1 degree of timing retard for every psi of boost. If you are boosting 15psi...that is 15degrees of timing retard which is likely way too much. Not to mentioned that peak trq loads are much lower in the power band...and if anything...you want less timing in those areas vs. near redline.

When I OBDII Data logged my car on the rod, with laptop in hand...I noticed a couple of things.

First....when crusing around....1/8 throttle or whatever...my timing was right around 40degrees of advance. This is normal and provides low emissions, and a stable idle and cruise.

Second, as SOON as I went WOT, the timing immediately dropped to the mid to low 20's range....and stayed relatively constant all the way to redline. My point is that the stock ECU, is determining timing primarily by load, and not necessarily by RPM...so the car is not advance timing at higher RPM, as others have suggested. So in essence, at least with my observations on my F/I car...you can dial in a pretty stable about of retard across the board....rather than increasing as redline approaches.

Obvisouly, this is just a starting guildine, and you really need to have someone tune your specific car, and check knock sensor activity and the like. But I just wanted to explain what I dont like the PSI based method of retarding.

Depending on when you car is done, Todd....Phunk is going to be tuning my car with eManage later in Feb. We might have some more input a bit later.

i'm glad i did have your # when i blew up my motor, i needed the moral support! hahaha

anyway, believe me, i wanted to wait until u rebuilt and then tuned your car...i didn't ever expect to have to do it before you!...but i plan on tuning initially for 400-450whp..then i'll wait until what u do and figure out...i'd like to retune and be around 550 or maybe a bit more!

thanks

Hey Sharif,
Are you gonna wait until feb to have your car tuned at all? or are you going to tune initially, and then have charles re-tune again?
Please keep us posted with what tuning route you go...maybe even post a map when you can....
BTW, did you get your main and rod bearings in yet? I'm currently waiting on the machine shop, dragging their a$$!!!
Thanks,
TODD

Was this mid/low 20's timing with some type of retard, I think I remember seeing somewhere that yo uwere retarding 6 degrees, or are the numbers without retard?
