Default Oh the Carnage!!! Pics of New/Old Blocks, Not for the faint of heart!

First pics of the new VQ-35DE block that has been machined, balanced, and with ARP main studs.
Take note how an intact engine looks and my next post will be the carnage.

Note intact girdle. The piece of metal that goes around and provides lower support for the crankshaft. Here you see it with the studs.

Please no children allowed and make sure if you're under 18 you have an adult with you.
Now for the Carnage!!! Remains of my old block....

Look at the new window (of two total windows) in the block and girdle is completely toasted.

Window #1

Window #2

Note the piston is cracked, this is #2 piston

Remains of #2 rod. You can see the end is literally broke then seemed to be molten!

Yeah, basically the stock VQ-35DE rods are not strong enough for those kinda of power levels. Even with an awesome tune, when you're pushing more than 375-400rwhp its just a matter of time before a rod breaks and puts a window in your block. I had a good tune with AFR around low 11s.

holy fazzoli.....

thats wicked.....

Did you notice anything besides the rod damage that could have caused any problems... I'm thinking the piston was damaged from the rod? Dunno?

Hey I also noticed that your block had some shavings taken away inside the very bottom of the cylinder

Strange... whats that for?? I've never seen that

They put the main studs in, but they're not torqued of course because they have to install the crankshaft.

Your block looks damaged though

J/K, sorry didn't get pics. Hey, that will be our excuse for us to alternate and go in to take pics. Just to make sure they're working feverishly! I can almost hear it if I listen closely....

PPPPPSSSSSHHHTTTTTTT!!!!!

Todd and I have known each other only like 4 months, but it seems like years though. We both blew our engines about 11 days apart and have helped each other ever since. we have swapped out parts as necessary to help each get back on the road.

Its just a joke

The piston was more than likely damaged from the last upward force it experienced after the rod failure.

Which pic are you referring to with regards to metal shavings?

VQ35DE 350Z blown motor club has to band together.

Yeah, I know. I thought it was hilarious, you should have spaced it more though, he may actually believe it until he scrolls down!

in the 6th and 7th picture down (closeups of cylinder) there's a large gouge out of the bottom of the cylinder.. kind like a crescent halfmoon shape... there are no shavings sorry.. i meant why did they remove that metal.... mine didnt look like that... just wondering.. it looks like it was done on purpose though... maybe another way to fix the oil jet piston problem with arias??
