sorry this is off-topic, but would it be dangerous to run a higher octane than the car is tuned for?

You can always run higher octane, especially on a FI car. Never run lower octane than what's you've been tuned with.

i recommend running 100 unleaded at max if your tuned for 91-93. however there is no danger in higher octane.

I had the same problem, even with thinner aftermarket fans. We ended up taking the radiator support off i think.
