Using a thicker head gasket will likely totally F*ck the quench area designed into your combustion chamber. This will cause a greater amount of heat to be transferred into the engine itself instead of exiting out with the exhaust. It will expose the engine internals to more direct heat from combustion shortening its life. Part of the reason detonation is so bad for an engine is that it disturbs this quench volume, and we all know how bad that is for internals. It is the reason EGT temps fall and coolant temps rise during detonation.

It might not make a huge difference though, depends how sensitive the combustion chamber design is to that change. If someone tries it, make sure to monitor those oil and water temps.

ya all the time involved, plus the misalignment issues, and cam timing being set off, will prolly hurt more than it could help. if you had the block and heads "decked", then you might have a viable reason to need the thicker head gaskets.
