Default Why is the fuel pump housing spring loaded?

Any ideas why the white plastic fuel pump housing is spring loaded?? Is it just because the fuel tank is shallow?? Thanks.

I think it keeps the fuel pump securely in place. There is a lot of pressure being generated by that pump, and it keeps the pump from popping out, and maintains a tight seal against the bottom of the assembly.
