Default Anybody blew an engine with a vortech supercharger?

Well I am new to FI, and actually never owned an either factory or aftermarket FI vehicle. I am , like everyone else, torn apart between turbo and supercharger kits. I pretty much know the pro's and cons about both systems. I just wanted to see if there are any members who blew their engine, runnig vortech or other superchargers, using recommended psi, with stock pulleys.

I havent heard of any one blowing a motor or breaking a piston with the stock Vortech fuel and timing maps . I dont have a good memory though . I broke a rind land because I wasnt pulling enough timing out with the 3.12 serp pulley on

I only know of one, but hear they are a few. The one I know of (booger) blew his cause he was not pulling enough timing. I would suggest before you make a choice about whether you go tt or s/c see if you can get a supercharged and TT member on this board to give you a ride. That way you can make your choice after you have riding in each one and see how they drive. s/c is definately less expensive but you may end up wanting more power. TT would be better if you want more that 400rwhp.

There was one case of engine failure in a 350Z/Vortech that Avalon Racing believes was due to leaving VDC on during intense driving.

Well then I am in luck, I got Enthusiast no VDC,
Hmm I wonder if traction control will affect it.... I think it only applies brakes under slip conditions right? That shouldent be a problem, however if its cutting the fuel or anything , then it might cause detonation, or not.... I dont know.... I am a newbie....

I did consider the TT kit however I am not too keen about having a tt on my car without building up the pistons, rods sleeves etc... I am gonna need to do it to pass 400whp anyways so if I want over 400 whp its a 7k tt kit+ installation + engine build up a total of what maybe $15k? Currently I am not plannig to spend that kind of money. If I can spend around 4-5k and be around 400rwhp, ill be happy.

It's the traction control aspect of VDC that causes the problem, not the braking of individual wheels to keep you going in the direction you want. The traction control cuts the throttle (drive by wire) changing the engine speed and altering AFR. When TC releases control at lower speed and RPMs--and one's foot is still down on the floor at WOT--I believe this could cause detonation in certain situations--?lugging and leanness. This is just a theory of course, but why take a chance? If you can, I would turn off TC if possible when driving hard under FI in good weather.
