Thanks for the description of detonation. I have a question you might be able to answer. If I install a supercharger and then have to drive it 4 hours to the nearest tune shop to make sure it's tuned OK, will I be able to avoid detonation (in the event the initial tuning is not quite right) by not pushing the engine too hard, or is it to risky to drive it that far even at moderate revs?

Thanks.

ya, this thread is over a year old, lol. but you should be fine during normal driving. just hold off the speed demons till you get the tune done. staying out of boost you should be fine. staying out of it could mean a happy motor and tons of miles, heeding to the speed demons and romping on it, could mean another motor and heaps o' money.

Ok so lemme ask this...I have a really good tune already. Say I want to WI it wouldn't that actually lower my HP? Would I have to get a retune or is that something I could change myself with the Utec? I REALLY dont wanna spend another 660 just for a retune lol

At what ratio does the mixture become flammable?

you definately would not have to get a full retune. the wi is just to bring intake and combustion temps down, so you can crank them back up by advancing timing and running abit leaner on your tune, hence more power. i personally am not a huge fan of it, kinda like having to keep filling a nitrous bottle, but unlike nitrous, when the tank is empty, you can blow your motor.

This is also one of my reasons for not liking it. Another thing is that you can only run as much timing as your "hottest hole". Our IM isn't as bad as say a mustang 5.0 about these hot spots but you get the idea.
