Default Sleaved engines & Head Gaskets

Can anyone recommend a good source of information on sleaving engines?

When should it be considered?

Head Gaskets or O-Rings?

Heating and Cooling issues?

Benefits and drawbacks...?

So far Darton and AEBS are the only companies that offer sleeves for our engines that I know of. I know a few people including Charles from CJ-Motorsports went with the AEBS sleeves and I remember seeing someone who went with the Darton sleeves.

As far as a good place for information, call up AEBS, I am sure that should help.

I value experience.......since I seem to learn from my mistakes (I've made so many).

I’m currently in the process of building a Darton sleeved block. I will post a review as soon as we use that engine. Its being built by Ultimate Racing.

The original poster asked some pretty generic questions around sleeving blocks, and if they spent a little time doing some research, they could answer the question themselves. I should have posted this link as well: https://my350z.com/forum/search.php

Two long time and respected members on this forum, Phunk & 350zDCalb are currently experiencing problems with their built motors. I honestly don't know if their engines are sleaved or not.

At the time, from what they where saying, I had some thoughts and concerns about how to best build (and seal) our engines.

My original post was an attempt to gain information and possibly learn something.

Like I said before, sometimes actual experiences are better than just reading about them.

Actually, its Gurgen and Phunk that are having coolant leakage issues with the AEBS sleeved motors. It took soon to tell if its the sleeves, or something else that is causing the head gaskets to fail.

That said, I would be looking at Darton for sleeves....personally.

ZRAYGO (Ray) has had an AEBS block w/ AEBS sleeves done for quite some time now, and has had no problems.. However he isn't running too much boost at the moment.

i had no problems until pushing over 550rwhp.

i believe my issue to be a combination of head lift and improper surface preperation. I will fix it soon. Car is still on the road daily with no problems up to 12 psi of boost.

700+ rwhp here i come!

Sorry to bring this back from the dead.. but I thought it signifigant..

I would not advise letting AEBS sleeve a block.. I had 2 QR25DE blocks that sank sleeves.. that were both sleeved by AEBS. I have switched to a different machine shop.. and have had good luck so far. 1 block, the number 2 sleeve dropped .002"! I put a flat bar on top, with a feeler guage.. and could see the gap. It puked coolant out of the overflow jug on a 400whp pull. AEBS claimed that it wasn't anything that they did wrong.. of course.
