Default APS TT in high desert temps

I finally got a break from work today and had the chance to spend a couple of hours behind the wheel checking out the new TT system. From the twisties in Red Rock Canyon to the slightly higher altitude of Mt Charleston, the car performed without a hiccup. I was concerned about the 107-110 temps out at Red Rock, but I saw/felt no discernable loss in power or boost, and the oil temp never rose much above 200. I'm not sure I'd take it out to Death Valley where the temps are 130+, but under these still extreme conditions, it seemed as reliable as a factory TT system.

The ACT clutch seems to have settled in a bit, making less noise than when new, yet still feels much stronger and smoother than the OEM unit. I think I'm gonna like this clutch.

Earlier, I compared this newly transformed Z to my old Z06, but that was wrong. This car is truly a different animal, one that is easier to live with when not driving aggressively. The Z06 was a brute with massive torque always on tap (and often annoying) when a more relaxing pace or stop and go traffic was the course. The balky shifter could get down right frustrating. There's no denying the Z06 allure of instantaneous power in almost any gear at any RPM, but the Vette never had the rush of the TT Z when you nail it at 4000 RPM in second gear. I'm still not used to it, but another 40 or so HP when I add the APS exhaust will be even better.....this power is intoxicating indeed.

The Z now seems to have a dual personality. While the Vette was like The Hulk 100% of the time, the Z is more like Clark Kent and Superman, each called upon by the whim of your right foot.

So far, so good.

I took the car to Dyno-Comp in Scottsdale. There's no shop in Las Vegas that can do an APS install and tune. These guys do amazing work...don't go anywhere else.

No problem....wait 'til after I get the exhaust installed in mid-June. No sense in checking it out now while it's so damned underpowered!

Damn you APS TT guys are making me drool. How much was the kit and install costs? Also you mentioned tuning... I thought the APS came ready to rock with no additional tuning required?

Get Test Pipes and see what happens, you'll swear your turbos became unclogged. Im trying to get the Oil Temp guage put in along with and inverted hood. Makes a world of a difference. I can't wait Im going to Vegas July 4th weekend.

I'd like to know this too. I mounted mine at the turbo feed on the turbo housing. I know mine is getting transient heat from the turbo housing but my oil temp is steady at about 200-220 if I stay off boost...

I have no idea where the oil temp sensor is located, but I'll try to find out.

If I stay off boost, it rarely rises above 180-185. When I was getting on it pretty good, the highest it ever went was 208.

Unless I can find a hookup for emissions here, I've got to stay with the stock cats to pass.

What's strange is that they would always stick a sensor up the tailpipe and print out a bunch of readings. Yesterday, when I brought my daily driver/work vehicle in for it's annual smog check, they didn't do any of that. They only hooked up to the computer under the dash, and that was it. "$24.00 please." Now I don't know what to think.

In the Chicagoland area in Illinois 1996+ cars with OBDII are tested that way. Just plug-in and go. No sniff test..those are for pre-96. But if you have a CEL stored in the ecu you'll fail. So if your tune dconverative w/TT you should be OK for emissions when they plug into OBDII and get the readings and no CEL.

Like he said...most states have gone to the OBD emissions test for newer cars. I took my 97 maxima with no cat on it in to get the emission test done and all they did was plug it in and it passed with flying colors. I plan on doing the same with the Z.....

The main reason I ask is tgat your oil temp should be around 200-220 ideally even without a turbo. This is the proper oil temp to function well.

Interesting! I have to renew in September, so if in fact they no longer do a sniffer test, I'll dump the cats soon after.

I've emailed the installer for an answer to the oil temp sensor location.
