Default CAS Wire From APS Kit

OK, so I won't be using the harness that comes with the APS kit (that integrates the Unichip), but I would like to use the shielded CAS wire. Can I just clip the wire at the APS harness and solder it in to my new harness? Is there anything I need to be concerned about, like length of wire, or anything?

Thanks

Chris

curious why are you not using the harness? Are you planning on running something other than the Unchip?

It shouldnt be a problem to cut and rewire it into a new harness.

Not using the Unichip, I will be using the equivalent, yet tunable emanage!

you can just cut off the plugs for the unichip and put on the emanage... but you will also have to splice into all the coils since the unichip does its timing retard with the CAS signal, and then you will need to splice all the injectors also since the unichip only grabs the MAF.

That would have been a great suggestion BEFORE I BOUGHT THE HARNESS!!!!!! Damn you.

The problem with that though, is APS has a big hunk of plastic/epoxy crap so that you can't tell what wires do what because it's all spliced inside of the opaque goo, so the only way to make that work is with a Unichip wiring diagram, voltage meter and alot of time, or a heat gun and alot of time.

Please don't give me any other options that are easier because I need to justify the $300 expense to myself.

K, thanks

Chris

PS- What is so wow about this thread, I figured it was pretty ordinary?

PPS- Since no one really cares about this thread besides Sharif and Charles, any power guestimates with APS @ 12 psi, with kinetix plenium, APS exhaust, test pipes, 8.5:1 compression, and JWT cams? Whoever is closest wins a prize!!

PPPS - this is my 69th post, huh huh... <cough>

i will be surprised if you can hit 12 psi with the cams and low compression. if you can, i would guess between 500-530rwhp.

Ordinary? Noone has had the ***** to use an e-manage instead of the unichip so far. I'm just curious with the results.

CJ, thanks for being creative. I have one other customer that has ditched the Unichip for the eManage. Given a proper and thorough tune, you will be very happy with the results.

Can't wait to see some of the numbers coming out of the APS/eManage tuned cars.

Ok Beavis, @ 12 PSI I'm guessing 525, but because of everything you are doing I am guessing that you won't know until this time next year

By this time next week I should have numbers for you @ 11 PSI, Kinetix SSV, full exhaust, stock compression & stock cams. So whats your guess?

So I guess my question is why go with the APS at all and not just go with the Greddy Kit, that way you are not limited to 12 psi, the only difference would be the bumper bar issue and the water cooled turbos and more money.

I thnk we'll soon see the first blown engine of an APS kit....of course it's no longer a true APS kit.

Having said that I hope it will NOT blow since I don't wish that to anyone, but I don't get why you would buy the aps and then get rid of it's "brain" Why not just go greddy then???? I have nothing but bad about the emanage and only good about the unichip (except for the tuning part of course...)

yea i dont see the point personally unless one was already stuck with the APS installed and needed to get tuned. After taking out their pre-wired piggy back, the only peformance advantage left is the fuel system which anyone can do themselves.

I agree specially since their "return system" is just a couple of hoses and a FPR, it just doesn't seem like a financially sound way to go.

What's bad about the emanage it is a great user friendly fuel management system, you just have to understand what you are doing.

I know a ton of people that used the emanage on different cars and had bad experiences, as I said I was told, I never used it but I trust the people that told me and since I ordered the APS and will use it with the unichip I'm not worried...

they function essentially the same, except the e-manage has greater tuning strength with its pulsewidth extention capabilities versus strictly MAF manipulation like the unichip. the unichip retards timing thru CAS manipulation where as greddy does it with the coils... both produce rather choppy looking graphs with most having the large dip around 5200 rpm in higher hp applications. from what i have seen of the unichip software it looks antique. i definatly wouldnt be concerned with using a E-Manage in the APS kit other than the fact that poor tuning will cause another blown engine.
