was the dyno on 91 or 100 octane?

dyno was on 91...i plan to fill everytime with 4 gallons 101 and the rest 91 for an added safety blanket

BTW, have you noticed much of a difference in noise between this build and the last one? I think you mentioned that the other engine made quite a ruckus...

i say keep it at 600rwhp (if it wont damage the motor long term/short term) and just use BFG drag radials

Glad your finally rolling the beast again. Keep hearing about local boys putting spankings on unmodded Z's. (big deal) Sorry I missed you at Elliott's the other day. Would like to have met Sharif. Had to work at 2:00 on Saturday. Couldn't make it to see you tune her up.

Are the numbers on the dyno SAE corrected for your altitude? Do you also have the actual? I am curious to see what you are making at 14psi uncorrected. Also, I cannot remember if you went to 8.5 CR. I think you are at 9.0 with the new super duty Arias'. Is that right?

ernie and i compared numbers at 5500ft alt vs sea level and came up with a correction factor of about 10-11% (the dyno can display the calculated actual-but it shows a number that is way too low)...
so, my actual rwhp should be somewhere in the neighborhood of 480rwhp

I never heard Todd's first motor, but I was VERY suprised that these Extreme Duty Zero Silicon Arias racing pistons are so quiet. Todd's car idles a little bit low...about 600rpm, and so at warm idle, you hear a little bit of piston rocking. When I revved his car to 900rpm, the rocking was gone, and the engine sounded nearly identical to mine.

I was convinced these pistons would be noiser, but in fact...they are not....all the more impressive.

You should consider running water injection with 50% methanol. You could run 93/91 without having the bother of filling with race gas every time.

It would really give you that safety margin.

BTW, I'm pretty jealous of your car, and I don't say that very often!!!

funny you say that sharif, as i remember a certain dipsh!t saying my motor sounded bad/was buit bad/ etc....

thanks again sharif...you rock!!! (like the rolex gq)

No issue with overflow. Ambient temp was 100 degrees with zero humidity. We made 60 passes on the dyno, and coolant temps never went above 215degrees, and usually stayed in the 205 range.

Exclamation My stomach ulcer is now relieved!!!

So, even though we have all these cool viper killing stories, long tuning hours, and fun in the sun in ALB, NM... yesterday, I thought that we had a tragedy on our hands, let me explain:

Per my thread on my oil catch can install yesterday, I did a little bit of work on my car- I went to start up my car after I installed the catch can, and plumes of smoke started coming out of the exhaust!!!

The only changes that I made to my motor that resulted in the smoking was:
added oil catch can
relocated the coolant overflow tank
added about 1/3 quart of oil (dipstick was just slightly above the low mark


Yesterday, I went through the following:
pulled plugs--they looked fine(no oil on plugs/no steam clean washed look-coolant in cylinder indicator)
did a compression test: all checked out identicle to pre-dyno tune numbers
uninstalled catch can (i knew it was installed correctly, but who knows?)

The car was still smoking...making full power as before, just smoking

SOOOOOOOOOoooooo, this morning, I went to SPEEDLAB...
I did a leakdown: all numbers were great:
cylinder
5: 96psi 6: 91psi
3: 90psi 4: 94psi
1: 90psi 2: 92psi

After consulting with Brody (SPEEDLAB), Sharif, and Gurgen (thanks for your help, BTW), we decided to drain about 1/3 of a quart of oil to determine whether this was simply an overfill issue...

well....that solved it! immediately, I was able to run WOT with no smoke...amazing...

The oil was backing up from the turbo oil return lines because of the added oil pressure and seeping through the turbos (my assumption at this point)

When we built this motor, a modification was made to the oil pump...a small washer was added (the oil pump has a similar wastegate type mechanism-the washer served as a spacer to raise the oil pressure just a bit)..this plus the addition of a JWT oil pan spacer (just added this, filled motor with approx 51/2 quarts of oil-wasn't able to get an accurate dipstick reading prior to dynoing--you know how hard the dipsticks on these cars are to read without allowing the oil to cool for at least 20-30minutes).
These two issues allowed me to slightly overfill the oil---as I have discovered, my motor likes the oil at the very bottom of the dipstick (5mm above the "L" mark)

Anyway, the issue seams to be resolved...it is very hot today (102 degrees), so I will hold off runningmy car hard until it cools down tonight.

IF ANYBODY HAS THE JWT OIL PAN SPACER, PLS LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE HAD ANY ISSUES- OR WHERE YOU FILL PER THE DIPSTICK
