any time i remove my intake piping, there is definately an accumulation of oil at the rubber hose fittings (where they contact the piping)
any tips on the steel wool...do you just pack it inside the catch can?
what prevents fragments from getting through?
also, does anybody know how the inside of the greddy universal catch can is designed? is it just hollow? are there baffles/channels inside that prevent the oil from just blowing straight through?

Here is the fine one that I would NOT use, although it makes a PERFECT baffle.
It's probably ok to use the above if you can make some sort of a VERY secure netting to enlcose it in, but I'd be having nightmares of some of those strands dislodging and ending up in your combustion chanmber. Not worth it.
it's from this pages that you may find helpful: http://www.c-speedracing.com/howto/c...s/dsc00258.jpg
This was also a good thread: http://64.233.179.104/search?q=cache...h+can%22&hl=en
The coarse one looks more like a bunched up "pile" of ribbon tape couple of millimeters in diameter.

so, after talking it over with Gurgen and Sharif, I decided to hook the catch can up like it was before...even though this provides very little vacuum...
i stuffed the catch can full of coarse steel wool (really like stainless steel ribbon from albertsons
)
i fabricated an in-line filter to catch any steel particles that may try to get by...
here's the pics:

stuffing the steel into the small a$$ holes:

here's the little thimble like filter i used..it is a A/C filter from NAPA..part number on card:

fits inside the 1/2 inch line perfectly...just snug

had to:

this is where i got really creative..i wanted to make this in-line filter easy to take off and inspect/clean...so, i took an old cheap socket and drilled it out:

then used that to hold the thimble looking filter in place...from not getting pushing through the hose:

final product:

look at the can on this catch:

i'll be taking orders on my how-to's shortly

Aren't you worried about oil build up on the 'thimble'? If there was any blow by, wouldn't dirt and oil just collect here and clog your passage way completely? Is there enough of a vacuum to keep this from happening?

i am hoping that hardly ANY debris gets by my stuffed catch can...but my concern, more of a paranoa..is if a metal fragment gets through and gets sucked into the turbo...im gonna check the thimble evry couple of days..that's why i made the quick disconnect dealy, so i could monitir what was going on ...i should just make that line clear, i think i'll do that soon actually
so, anyway, i'll check it on a regular basis and get a better idea of how much and how quickly anything, if anything, gets stuck in the thimble filter

not worried about the pressure (or lack there of) in breaking steel fragments off and allowing them to find their way into the turbo...i am acting cautiously to prevent any EXISTING fragments in the can to be pushed through...i had to cut the steel wool to pack it in the can, i was as careful as i could be to not stuff any free floating steel debris in the can, but better safe than sorry
and i've heard a few have a removable top...but the greddy one is so pretty
Just wondering - does anyone who has the ARC one know what hoses are connected to it? Both sides or just one, and does it reconnect to the intake? Anyone know of a problem if I just use a breather catch can and vent to atmosphere on both the passenger and driver side? Other than oil odor? After all, I don't drive a hybrid!
