Not knocking the private sale but I would talk to Sharif. He just did this when he built his motor. PM sharif@forged

You guys are great. Random topic...but I should leave the office more often. I swear the cell phone was ringing off the hook!! And since I can work pretty darn effectively even when mobile, and towing a 10,000lb load, everyone's orders will still ship on time.

Anyways, enough self-promotion. Yes, if you plan to boost 12psi, you should change out the springs. Boost controllers work best when increasing boost no more than double the wastgate spring. so to make the boost controller's job easier, we usually upgrade springs. Just keep in mind that the new spring will your new low boost floor. Most of us go with .8bar springs, since this will deliver roughly 10.5psi of boost pressure, after you factor in the intercooler pressure decrease.

The Tial springs are backorder for 5 days, so if you need them quickly, buying them second hand is a great idea. We sell them for $80 shipped, so that's a good price that Paul is offering. I would snap them up!

Can we change out the springs on the Turbonetics kit? Just minor increase. Lets say to a 9psi or 9.5psi.

I dont feel like spending couple hundred dollars getting a boost controller if Im just gonna boost up a little and stay with it.

It would take more effort/money to change the wastegate spring then to get a boost controller especially for just a 1-1.5 PSI increase. You don't have to buy an electronic boost controller. A manual boost controller is WAY more reliable and consistent then any electronic solenoid valve. A manual boost controller is simply a bleeder valve that will limit the pressure to the wastegate and increase boost. I had one on my car for a while. You can get them for $40 or less from just about anywhere. Contact Speed Force Racing as I saw their new MBC (Manual Boost Controller) about a month ago and it looked VERY nice. The shop who does the install can set the boost for you as needed.

You can make your own MBC for like $15 with Grainger parts.

I see.

But with the manual boost controller is pretty much a trial and error thing when setting it right? Turn ****, run, check boost, adjust ****, run, check boost, adjust again...
The reason I would go with the spring is when I swap it, I'll know exactly what my boost will be. No boost creep problem(?). And not worry it about adjusting it ever again.

...I know. Im lazy.

This is true however the trial and error thing is not really that bad. Any decent shop can set the boost on a MBC in like 15 minutes.

Boost controllers also dramatically improve boost response, and you will achieve fast spool up, and more power/trq until the turbo reaches peak boost. It's some free midrange power for you, since the wastegate will be completely shut until the boost controller starts bleeding it off. A regular wastegate begins to open once you are making any amount of boost.

What boost controller is everyone using? Hows the new GReddy Profec S? I used to use Profec B with my old Eclipse, worked pretty well.

The most consistent boost controller I've seen/read reviews on is the HKS EVC 5. That or the Blitz SBC id... The Blitz got my interest because it has a auto boost set. Instead of setting gains, and % of boost like the Greddy you just tell the Blitz how much boost you want in PSI and do a few dyno runs. The Blitz will automatically adjut to that pressure and give you a great spool up characteristic after 3-4 runs.
