Default Considering some options...

for pistons, rods, and engine management.

1.) Pistons.

I plan on having 3 settings for the engine management (change them via laptop on the go). 450rwhp, 550rwhp, and 650rwhp. All on 93 octane. Later on, after I get tired of those levels and become more confident in controlling the car, i'll get it retuned for higher number (550, 650, and 750 probably).

What pistons would you recommend for this continuous high PSI? My options are JE, Arias, SGP Racing, and CP. What do you recommend? I'd rather go Arias (not extreme duty) + ceramic coat them, i'm not sure if it will hold well enough though.

2.) Rods.

Same thing holds true.

Would you recommend Carrillo H-Beams, Pauter, or Crower?

3.) Engine Management

Same thing holds true. So I need something that is going to allow me to load maps via laptop (NOT at a shop, doing this myself).

What standalone options are there that will work with the OEM ECU? I know about the HKS FCON V Pro, MoTeC M600/M800, and Magneti Marelli SRT and SRA. The MoTeC and MM are a little expensive. The V Pro is just right, but only prodealers can tune it. (closest is ~800 miles away) I was looking at the Electromotive TEC3R but was informed by another member and now changed my mind. I'm also looking at the Haltech E11 2v, would this work if you just splice into the OEM ECU wires? (or is there more to it?)

I was considering the ultimate emanage, but i'm wanting to datalog via the engine management, I wish it had that option.

So, what are your recommendations for engine management?

I would extremely appreciate the help.

Also, how much would you pay for...
OEM shortblock + crank?
Pistons, rods, and sleeve install into that shortblock (including bore, hone, and balancing)?

Who do you recommend for the job? I will purchase the parts on my own, send it to them, they will install, and send the motor back, and i'll install on my own. I need someone who won't take more than 1-2 months, but it has to be a great job!

Finally, suggestions on who to tune the engine management that you recommend? (if it's the ultimate emanage + a datalogger you suggest, i'm taking it to Sharif)

Also, i'm looking for some lightweight wheels (15 or 16 or 17"?), simple design, that can be wrapped into some Mickey Thomspon slicks or Hoosier slicks (not sure what size will fit) for the drag track. Any recommendations on setups I can use would be appreciated.

And also looking for a setup for autocross/road course, what size wheel should I go with, and what tires? (I heard Toyo RA1s (I believe) are supposed to grip extremely well)

dont forget to buy some axles. you'll most likely mess up the stock ones quickly with boost+slicks.

Oh yes, Driveshaft Shop level 5 axles are going to be used.

Did CP Pistons fix the oil squirter clearance issue? If not then I definitely wouldn't recommend them. JE's always been good, we've had good results with Arias in VQ35s, we're going to be testing the non extreme versions at around 650whp very shortly.

2) Pauter rods are good if you can get a set that are in stock and don't have to wait 6 weeks.

I believe CP did fix the clearance issue with the oil squirters. Will JE and CP be able to withstand that kind of power over time as well as the SGP Racing and Arias [extreme duty] will?

Time is not really an issue, so would you still suggest Pauter?

why are you not wanting to go withh the "extreme duty" arias pistons...if you are planning on pushing 700+hp, you better go with a strong piston...they sound almost identicle to the standard arias piston (I actually have had experience with both)

Well, I was hoping the same reliability could be achieved by getting a set of 8.6:1 .020 overbore Arias pistons + ceramic coating them. Doesn't matter now though, the pistons I was looking at were already sold.

So, now it's up to SGP Racing (will withstand the power), CP (not sure), JE (not sure), and Arias extreme duty (will withstand the power)

After looking over my goals, i've revised them. Only 2 settings, 450rwhp and 650rwhp. I just didn't see the need for the "mid" setting. 450 sounds nice for daily driving and the 650 will be just right for drag racing/autox'ing. (less tuning for Sharif! )

Arias extreme duty + ceramic coated? That would be insane.

I'm thinking of going SGP Racing 8.5:1 .020 overbore pistons + Pauter rods. I imagine SGP Racing pistons are easier to get ahold of. (my reasoning for choosing those over Arias) Still deciding on the rods though.

Hey Brandon, I would definately suggest the Arias Extreme Duty piston....we are only talking about $200 more for the custom CR you are talking about. For the 20psi of boost pressure you will be running, I would consider them manditory.

The top ring land is twice as thick and the second land is 50% thicker, and there are no real drawbacks over the traditional design...just tons of improvements in terms of strength, and detonation protection. I would probably recommend just a moly coating of the skirts. Ceramic coatings, IMHO, are best left for race engines that see 10-15 pass, and then are torn down. The heat coatings, invariably wear off during normal street usage.

Sounds like you made your decision on engine management, and I think you are heading in the right direction with that.

With respect to the rods, I have heard 0 complaints on the Pauter rods, and you rarely see a rod that is as perfect out of the box, as the Pauter rod. I would see no reason to try another rod, unless I was looking for a super high revving application, in which case, I would suggest the Carillo H-Beam, since they are 100grams lighter, IIRC.

not too hard to get ahold of, i'm sure if u ordered them now you'd have them in your hands in 6 weeks...how soon are u doing this build?

I carry the Arias extreme duty in 9.0:1 as a stocking item. I sold the last one last week, but have 3 more sets coming in 2-3 weeks. We'll always try to keep this CR in stock, since its proven to be the most popular. If you want a different CR, Brandon, we can make them in 4 weeks top.

Ok, cool. I guess i'll stick to the original plan.

Arias extreme-duty (8.6:1 , not sure on the bore yet, how much can you bore the Darton sleeves?)

Got a while to figure out the bore, so no worries.
