Thanks for the info guys.

Oh, and here's an update: GRD is shipping the spare longblock they have to SGP tomorrow, and Friday I will be sending SGP my pistons, cams, and my barely used JWT clutch/flywheel that I'm trading in towards the ATS. Turn around time for SGP is 4-6 wks. In the meantime, GRD will be sending out my hot parts to be coated, installing the CJM fuel system, and sending my ECU for the reflash.

Does anyone have any suggestions for which brand of injector to use? I was originally going with the RC650cc injectors, but I was told that they could cause the fuel pressure to flutuate, which I'd never heard before.

Me neither....RC makes some damn nice injectors...maybe this is due to the fact that the APS base fuel pressure is higher then stock? You could go with some 750cc

Most everyone goes with RC Engineering, never heard of any problems.

I have never heard or seen that before. They do tend to run a tad rough at idle...some cars better than other. I have used the 650's and 550's without any major complaints, and they are much cheaper than PE 510's

Okay then, I'll just stick with the RC's.

So if I blow my motor up it takes 4-6 weeks to get a built one? I can't be out of a car that long...

4-6 weeks is if everything goes smooth. you DEFINATLY need to have another car... having a fully built car as your only car is a horrible idea!

The Z is my only car

I'm spending the equivilant of a nice used truck on my motor alone. NOT very smart, but you're only young once. This will ALL be ruled out once kids are in the picture, unless you're just dirty rich

i had a bad 550cc injector while trying to start my 1st built motor...
rc overnighted another 550cc injector...same problem (stuck open)---unbelievable, they said they have never had that happen, since they are supposedly all tested before they go out (i think they are tested in batches, not each one individually)...they sent another 550cc injector, that one worked

so, ya, there's been some problems before

Default Update:

I just got off the phone with Irshad from GRD; they pulled my motor today and started taking the turbo kit off. I found this more than a little disturbing, but appearantly while I was installing one of the turbos, I dropped a nut and they found it inside the charge pipe. Luckily, the bolt appeared to be undamaged, and I think I would hear a bolt being sucked through the fan blade, so we think nothing was damaged. I knew I dropped a couple bolts, but thought that they ended up in the hollow parts of the crossmember. Whoops!

Anyway, the motor is coming back from the machine shop on Monday, will be reassembled at SGP, then shipped back to Chicago this coming Wed. GRD is shipping out my parts to be coated on Monday, so everything is coming right along. Irshad said he'd like to have my car put back together, broken in, tuned, and ready to give back to me by Sept 10th!

You lucky devil.

I find it amazing how many people are getting twins, and building engines! Makes me scared to race any 350z! You'll never know if they are sporting some serious HP.

Hey, you shouldn't be talking, you're going to have a pretty badazz Z yourself after you get your motor built!

Another drop in like the RC's are the Seimens 60lb's for the 03 Cobra. They fit in directly and are cheaper and easier to find. Just another option. I'm open to any flaming. I've been using them for a few days and on my built motor and at 12psi, 48 static fuel pressure they are only reaching 76% duty cycle. RC rates their injectors a little higher(from what i have been told and read on the internet) than what everyone else rates theirs(higher duty cycle). Someone also told me that they use the seimens injectors as their core but they look nothing alike so I don't believe that. Attached are a few pics(I know they are small). They are physically longer but go in the injector bosses further. They are also thinner. The writing on the side says Seimens Deka, Mototron, INJ-GAS-006, 4173P07360 in case someone feels like doing some research.

Thanks king, I'll keep that in mind when it comes time to upgrade the fuel system. I've decided to keep it at 12psi on the stock APS fuel system until I can afford to go all out on a better one.

Glad to see your car is almost complete. I am also in the final process of my build.

BTW, does anyone have a definitive answer on what the APS fuel system is capable of?

Hope everything goes well on your build.

From what Peter has told me, it's good up to 12psi. BUT, that's using stock actuators, which I've replaced. So, I guess it would be up to the tuner; how much higher they think would still be considered "safe". I'd love to get around 520-530whp with all of my mods and stock APS fuel system, but we'll see how it goes.

Update:

The engine is finished, and SGP either shipped it back to GRD today, and if not, tomorrow. All the hot parts are at Jet Hot right now being coated in Jet Hot 2000 thermal coating. Everything should be back at GRD late next week for assembly!

I've also decided that I'd go ahead and upgrade the fuel system this time around, instead of putting it off. WTH, you only live once. I'm just waiting for either Phunk or Sharif to call me back. First one who calls me back and has one in stock, gets the sale!!
