Default Newbie Question

hey whats goin on guys. for the last week i have been searching for a good maxima forum but the ones ive seen arent so in debt with info that i need. now i presently drive a 03 sentra. a friend of mine that has been building ka and sr20s will be swapping a vq35 into my car. it is from a maxima. now im wondering if there are any differences between the two motors such as compression, head flow and what not because i know sr20s are sometimes different on different platforms like fwd and rwd. the main reason i want to know this is because next year i plan on throwing a custom twin turbo kit onto the motor and want to know this info so i can avoid problems down the road. any help would be much appreciated thanks guys

RB

ps. here are pics of a vq30 in a sentra engine bay just to check fitment and what not just to let you guys kno im not ur typical newb just asking dumb sh#t

Just curious what your hp goals are? What will you be using the car for? Me and my buddy work on his Turbo SR20 and it is pretty fast. I know some people are running over 400 hp in those things. If you are swapping to a vq twin turbo I assume you want more power than that. Anything over 400 hp in one of those 2500 lb cars must be insane. Since the max VQ is from a FWD car it should be easier to adapt to the sentra. To my knowledge there is no compression difference between any of the motors.

sr 20 pics in case you were curious

well i really dont want to go sr20. i want to be a lil bit different and plus im going to be driving around with it NA for about 6-10 months so to have 200+ whp NA will be fun as well. im not entirely sure what my whp goals will be when its all said and done. we'l see how fast i get bored of being at a certain amount. but i think for the most part ill be at around 350 and in a yaer or so i may go with a built bottom end and the go around 400+. i have a friend that has 423whp on an sr20 in his car but i think the extra work and money is worth having a v6 in this car and just being a sleeper.

33truballa33,

You should try maxima.org in the allmotor section. A hand full of maximas have dropped in VQ35 in there cars with no prob. Too my knowledge there is no diff. in compression in the motors. also why don't you stick with a VQ30 they seem pretty strong, SGP Racing made a custom turbo set up for my I30 and I'm at 350hp and plan on going back in about a couple of weeks to hit 450hp.(had some over heating problems, needed a new radiator and fans.) but a VQ35 would be sick in a sentra. Good Luck

No compression difference. Cam timing, ign timing, and possibly the cam grind itself are diffrerent but other then that no... The only one that might be is the Rev up 05 model Z engine which has supposedly stronger rod bolts and cvtc on the exhaust side also. But barring that no the only difference between Alt, Max, and Z is timing and ECU settings..
