Question Engine Building Question

What all machine work is required when installing forged rods/pistons? I know you have to bore/hone the block but is anything else necessary like balancing and micropolishing the crank?

Be extremely careful if you are going to have the crank polished. The stock beaing tolerances are extremely small. If you take off too much material there are no aftermarket bearings available yet for oversized applications. It is a good idea to balance the crank however....just make sure it is done with the clutch and flywheel you will be using on the car.

Bore and hone the block and balance the pistons and rods. That's about it. You are getting ARP head and main studs, right? Is this a blown motor or are you just building it up?

This build is for APS TT. Yes, I'll be getting ARP head and main studs. Aren't the Pauter rods and Arias pistons already balanced out of the box?

I don't believe so.

No....mine were up to 2 grams different in weight for the Arias pistons and Pauter rods.

the arias and pauter are super close as for as standards go but still have it checked. all my rods were almost perfect but pistons needed a little matching. i had my crank micro polished and using the same bearing codes as came factory my clearances are right at the factory minimums. other than a bore and hone and balance that is about all that is required. but you could go wild if you wanted and do a full engine block blueprinting. someone would have to know the vq35 pretty well to be able to do it though.
