Default New Wastegate Actuators for my APS kit!

I don't know what everybody else came up with, but here's a pic of the new actuators my shop ordered in. They had to cut/modify the threaded portion, but said they were very happy with the outcome. It should all be together this week and we'll see how they work. Let me know if anybody still needs info on sourcing these and I'll get it from the shop.

Congrats...its too bad APS's claimed "support of the community" couldn't be extended to helping their actual customers without trying to make a buck.

In all fairness, APS designed their kit to run at a particular boost level and their actuators are fine for that application. Maybe they didn't anticipate the number of owners that were going to build forged motors with lower CR?

These are supposed to be set on the bench for 10psi minimum boost and adjustable up to 20psi. (fingers crossed) Since I don't have an APS authorized tuner within range, this is going to be interesting............

nice find... any information you can give us on those would be appreciated. I will gladly purchase a set at retail price thru your tuner.

Phunk-
I just emailed the shop for the parts numbers and contact info for their supplier. What's your backlog looking like these days? If I ever get this install finished, I still have to have somebody tune it.........
Any intercooler install helpful hints? They tell me the right side doesn't really line up with the short piece of silicone hose that's included.

we have replaced those couplers with longer ones for better fitment. try hightempsilicone.com for high quality replacements that will be shipped immediately.

as for tuning your car... I am not an APS dealer... so unless you swap in a E-Manage or FCON or something else less proprietary, I cannot be of much help. However whichever APS dealer is close to you will work just fine... these piggybacks are cake to tune and anyone with the software and a wideband can get your A/Fs on target.

Phunk- Thanks for the suggestion.

Sharif- They told me $84.23 apiece plus shipping. The estimate is $183.46. I didn't have anything to compare it to---- and I needed them badly(the "junkie" part of mod-junkie is accurate).

Here you go. The contact info for the heavier wastegate actuators is: jason@torquefreaks.com

They had to cut the threaded portion down, set the base pressure manually, and re-use the stock linkage with some additional threading. They should be firing it up this afternoon. (fingers crossed)

Hey Bruce,

Any updates on whether or not the actuators worked for you? Charles & I are waiting to put my car back together but want a report on the actuators before he puts my engine back in.

Any info would be appreciated.

Jeff

Jeff-
The engine is back in the car and they've been running it on the dyno as time allows for the past two days. They're just varying the rpms and not getting into boost. I think it has about 30 miles on it. My big problem now is the amount of oil smoke coming out the exhaust. As far as the actuators go, the techs seem happy with the way they worked out, but we're not going to be ready to push things until I can figure out the smoke issue. Email jason@torquefreaks.com and see what he says.

Good luck,

Bruce

Yea, it sounds like I'm goint to need it. Charles mentioned the smoke issue also. Thanks for the update.

Default APS heavier wastegate actuator update

I'm through the break-in, and I had to take it back to the shop for some minor work. While they have it, they wanted to check output with the custom actuators. They're preset to 10psi and I'm running the stock APS map.

They said it showed 12psi and turned 412whp and either 383 or 363tq. I haven't seen any kind of dyno graph yet and it's getting tuned this weekend.
The good news is that it's holding more than the 9-11psi that I've been hearing about with the stock actuators. I should have some much better feedback after this weekends tuning.
