Can someone explain VB or Torque converter to me
Hey guys. Please don't flame me as I have read many threads on G35Driver and my350z but don't have an answer yet. I have a 05 AT G35 coupoe and will go FI with the Vortech. Right now, I have everything stock and will tune the vortech at a safe power setting as reliability is my number 1 goal. This is my daily driver. I have read all the threads concerning AT and the whole valve body / torque converter / tranny cooler upgrades and I am thoroughly confused.
First...can someone explain to me what is involved with these upgrades? Next, what should a shop charge for the install? Are their parts involved (Stillen, Level 10, etc). I am trying to figure out what each of these mods, parts and install, should cost me. Can any tranny shop do this or should I go to a shop who deals with the Z/G cars a lot?
How unsafe would it be to run the Vortech without upgrading these things?
And to voice a question in another thread...any good shops in the southest who can help a few of us AT FI guys...(maybe we can get a group install rate too)
Any info would be great. TIA

If you are going to keep the Vortech at a safe level of hp . You really dont need either the VB or trq. converter . The VB would be the easiest and have better benifits . It can be done with out dropping the tranny . I would think any tranny shop can drop the pan and take out the valve body . You then would have to ship it to who ever you decide on . The valve body upgrade will help the tranny shift faster and harder . That will help the tranny stay cooler.
The trq. converter will have to be explained by some one else on how it works exactly . But you need to drop the tranny for this , and the trq. converter taken out and shipped .
Cost for the valve body...is around $500 and 2 to 3 hours labor [ I think ]. The trq. converter is around $500 , but more labor is needed to pull the tranny and reinstall...cost me around $500 for labor by the dealer to do this . Im planning on the valve body upgrade soon . Wish it would have been avaliable sooner

With the AT, you might want to consider sending your ECU to Technosquare while installing the Vortech SC and get the "limited flash"! This will make for nicer shifts in the Auto Mode. The "limited flash' increases your rev limit to 7100+. removes speed limit and provides for 100% throttle.
Thanks for the replies....
I looked at Edge Racing for the TC.
I guess they all have different stall speeds. What stall speed should I be looking at with a Vortech S/C on the 5AT?
